So we're doing a little renovating and when taking up the carpets have found this

Problem is it's covered in layers of glue from where the carpet has been layed. Does anyone have any recommendations of how i could go about cleaning this up? I've tried a good scrub and a heat gun but it's not having a great deal of joy.

That would be lovely bought back to life.

Can you see is there are any joins in it? Isn't laid in slabs. If not it's likely an exposed aggregate that has been ground back originally which means you could grind it back some more.

If not some kind of thinners to liven the glue up so you can scrape it off.

What's the project though? What are you trying to achieve? Why bother cleaning it up - surely you're not keeping it exposed?

Edit - the beauty of opinion ^ :D.

It's in a hallway, it doesn't have joins (So not slabs).

It's all part of a renovation for work (We're a graphic design & Print company) We work out of an old cottage, it was always a temporary place to work from for us, but we've decided to stay here for a few more years so have decided to make a few changes. We still want to keep that old feel to it, whilst giving it a makeover.

Looks like Terrazzo flooring to me.

spot on, granite pieces in granite powered + cement mix, i think it looks great. Have a look at prices to get this laid new!

looks like it just needs a bit of a chemical clean, polish and seal to get it looking back to its former glory

don't use acid products as they can react with granite

It's only the factory made tiles that can contain asbestos, this looks like it was done insitu.
Not true at all, you have no idea what was mixed in at the time of installation, loads of adhesives contain asbestos that was mixed in prior to use/installation, thin set mortars, putty, texture coating the list is endless
