Hi

In a few days I will upgrade my Athlon 64 3000+ to an Athlon 64 3700+ and I want to reuse the A64 with the original AMD cooler in another computer but I don´t know if it will need any new thermal grease or not. I´ve seen one from GEiL that is quite cheap, is that one ok?

Also, how can I remove the cooler, I tried to remove it the other day and I couldn´t, it seems that is glued to the cooler :(

Do a google for a guide on how to remove the heatsink.

You will need some new TIM (Thermal interface Material) get the AS5 as it is far better.

King.

May be I´m an idiot and I dont know how to look for it but I haven´t found any articles about removing the fan.

Cool, I´ll get the AS5 then.

See guides but in general warm the cpu by using the PC,twist fan gently and lift do not try to lift straight off.

use plastic tools and solvent (isopropyl alchohol0 to clean the resdue off

reapply new compound

arctic silver is excellent but unless you will use the rest of the tube later its costly for just one application

Well, I don´t plan to use it anymore so yes, it will be only one use.

And again, I have done another search and I haven´t been able to find anything to the issue, although I think that I will do what you say.

Cheers
Gabriel
