hi,

i have two computers at my desk and the both run thur one keyboard/mouse/monitor i have some 5.1 speakers (nothing amazing just some cheap trust ones but good enuf for me) is there a way that i can split the sound so that i can use those speakers for both computers? was hopeing for a kind of KVM switch type of thing but for the speakers. any ideas how i can do this? or should i just get some seperate speakers.

thanks.

Use some 3.5 jack splitter cables, but they would need to be 1 socket split into 2 jacks. Whether or not someone makes them that way round though. Normally a splitter would split 1 jack in to 2 sockets.

If you are handy with soldering iron, you could buy a length of cable some jacks and sockets, and make your own. I did that with my headphone/speaker splitter cable, I needed 1 long end for the headphone and 1 short end for the speakers to connect to. Couldn't find a premade one, so bought the components from a well known electronics retailer.

I presume you are using a KVM switch... Some can switch between the sound too (mine does - Belkin)... Perhaps an update is in order!

I can't link to a potential competitors website here, but if you search for: "2 Way Stereo Speakers Switch Box" you should find what you need.
