How to run Silverarrow dual fans from CPU fan header

Apologies if this is obvious to everyone except me. I bought a Thermalright Silver Arrow and couldn't work out how to connect both fans. I wanted to connect them using PWM so that increased CPU temp would increase fan speed. Therefore I did not want to connect one fan to a chassis fan header.

This is the cable that made it work:

The CPU fan header just supplies the PWM signal to adjust the fan speed. The 12V feed is supplied from the Molex. One of the fan connectors has the speed signal connected.

Great little cable the akasa splitter. Ive been using one for a few years now with various push/pull fan setups. A very good investment, if a bit messy though.
 
There's at least one braided alternative out there, it's a little more expensive but I'd buy that instead. I have the Akasa one and whilst it works it's hideously wired up, and short of totally rewiring it you can't really make it any better.
 
Here's my custom PWM cable.

The PWM signal comes from the left most graphics card fan connector and splits off to the two 4 pin fan connectors. The two 3 pin connectors provide 12v, ground and speed sense to the motherboard.

I have a Thermalright TY-140 and an Akasa Apache connected and it works nicely. TY-140 runs a few hundred RPM slower than the Apache as you'd expect.

I couldn't bear to fit the Akasa splitter cable as it just looks ghastly.

Shame the braid was cheap. If I had this time again I would buy decent stuff.
And my standard 3 pin fan splitter.

I do wish that I could find someone who sells 3.2mm Orange heatshrink.

If I had a bunch of terminals and the relevant tools I would probably build my own harnesses. if I hadn't left my job 3 years ago I could have made these at work for free.

i agree, go for the braided splitter ;)
 
this is just what i need for my push/pull on my kuhler 620 as one is on the cpu header and one on the mobo header and they are always at different speeds didnt know they done these

True, it is messy. I just braided over the top in a way that suited where I wanted the fan headers to be.
 
Didn't you get a pwm splitter cable in the Silver Arrow kit? I'm pretty sure I did (but didn't end up using it because my mobo has 2 PWM CPU fan headers).

The Black Apache looks nicer that's for sure. As for noise I do find the Apache to be quite noisy when running at more than 900rpm, but then it is mounted on the outside of my case whereas the TY-140 is inside strapped to my graphics card. Performance would go to the TY-140 as well, simply by virtue of the larger size. My TY-140 has a little bearing noise when spun by hand but this doesn't seem to be an issue when it's being spun by power.

The TY-140 comes recommended by many on here but then so does the Apache.

Both wouldn't be out of place on a heatsink so may be considered to be wasted as simple case fans where a £2 fan would do just as good a job.
