How to secure a bike without an anchor point ?

Ok so I'm moving into a new appartment next month and I have a small problem. I have a fairly expensive mountain bike and I dont really fancy humping a muddy mountain bike up a flight of stairs and having it sitting in my living room for the majority of the time.

The only other option is leaving it in the downstairs foyer, only residents will have a key but I'm worried in case it goes walkies.

I'm assured that only "professionals" live there but I'm still worried incase other residents "friends" leave the building and decide to half inch my bike on the way out.

Other people leave their bikes there already but there is no way to secure it to anything and an anchor point is out of the question because it's a listed building.

Any ideas ?

Chain the wheel to the frame that should act as a reasonable deterrent.

I assume by anchor point you mean somewhere to chain it to that's attached to the ground.

A chain from the wheel to the frame won't work, they'll just lift it up and deal with it later if it's that nice of a bike (Some don't even care)

Buy some of those big rubble sacks (Rhino bags?) and stick it then then carry it up, remove the front wheel etc if needed.

The only safe way, you'll only worry otherwise + **** off other residents as they step over the inconvenience you leave them there all the time!

How about you befriend your neighboors who own the bikes, get a bike lock with a few keys and you all start locking each others bikes together? Might work? Dunno :)

Chain the wheels to the frame or remove them, and hope that if it is with other bikes that are not secured then they will provided an easier target for opportunistic thieves than yours.

If you have any weight lifting plates spare or can buy some cheap, you can put a chain through those and your bike. Less chance of them walking off with 80kg of weight plates hanging onto the bike.

if you dont have an anchor point then fit one, they can be had for £20 at your nearest bike store, just need a drill and masonary bit, :p

where there's a will there's a way

to be honest id just get a mate fit a steal bracket into the side of the wall, im sure the landlord wont care as long as you notify him
