Hey guys, my 5930K died recently and I couldn't wait to see if and when I got a replacement from Intel so a bought another one, now I did get a replacement and was wondering a couple of things about selling it.

It is in a sealed retail box and was thinking, would it be more likely to sell keeping it sealed and mentioned that and with pictures, or would there be more advantage in taking it out and testing it so I can say it works?

Thanks.

If its brand new and sealed in box then sell it as that and stipulate that any warranty issues must be dealt with directly with Intel.

How many CPUs that come direct from the manufacturer are actually DOA ?

I know but some might prefer to be sure it works, plus I don't know what the warranty is like with a replacement if the serial number was logged before being shipped to me.

Also talking about serial numbers is there any reason to hide them on the pictures, I doubt it but just in case.

I agree, sell it sealed but mention the warranty issue. I personally would definitely go with a CPU that was in a sealed box over one that had been opened. If your worried that Intel has linked the serial number to you then email Intel customer services & ask them if that is the case.

Yeah i would leave it sealed and just mention its a replacement from intel. If its sealed people know theres a chance of it been a nice clocker and its not just some guy binning cpus and selling on the left over junk.

1. People prefer sealed cpu
2. No serial number was logged to your account
3. They won't have any warranty without the original reciept
4. If they had the reciept but the names don't match, no warranty
5. Intel used to accept any cpu for warranty as long as there is no physical damage and the batch number is readable, no reciept required. But now their policy changed and it is now more restrictive.
Talking from my experience. Hope it helps! :)

Sell it sealed it's still new, the only thing you can't do on here is sell the new replacement chip for more than you original paid iirc.

That is if you've got access to the MM.

What is MM? I have a 2 month old i5 6600K I'm looking to sell - not getting any joy on Gumtree and loath to give ebay 10%...

you meet the "signed up for 180 days" but you need 1000 posts and you have 370 atm so another 630 to go!

Damn just the 2 months 935 posts to go for me then!! I've been on here everyday since joining but by my calculations, if I retain the same level of activeness, averaging 2.46 posts per day, I should qualify for the MM on 10/5/2017. Think I'll need to sell my i5 before then... :p

I would just sell as sealed.

Many people would prefer unopened just for the fact it's not been messed with. I'm sure it would be brand new and unregistered anyway. Just mention it was an Intel sealed replacement and any warranty resides with them.

Hey thanks for the feedback guys, I think I will leave it sealed, and I've just checked on the Intel warranty site and it has up until July 21 2019 so all good there. Also when I went through the process of replacing the dead one at no point did they ask for proof of purchase so seems that's not really required.

As I've seen used 5930K's going for over £300 I think I should hopefully manage to get at least that out of it.

Thanks again.

A faulty unused Intel CPU is very rare.
If you have confidence the box has not been opened you can be confident it will work if compatible.
If it has been opened you don't know what might have been done with it.

Same case when I replaced my dead 3770k. No proof required. I actually bought off eBay as working but it was dead. Seller refused a refund and so did eBay. Sent away and managed to get a new one luckily.

Brand new I would expect pretty much full price on eBay. £4-500.

Chances of it not working are very very rare.

Just sell as a brand new sealed CPU with full Intel warranty. Perhaps screenshot warranty dates and include in the sale to confirm.

if you sell on the bay take many pictures including serial number so you have a record of it all.

Yeah very important. I took a perfectly good CPU out of my system and sold it, they said it arrived DOA, i didnt even dispute it as i had no pictures or evidence so would have been a waste of time.
