Right disk Initialization defaulted to GPT for this 4TB drive, now i am in computer management, storage, disk management, now what do i choose ? can you confirm the following is correct, i think its new simple volume, then format this volume with the following settings, file system NTFS, allocation unit size Default, volume label New volume, then box is ticked Perform a quick format, i done all that and looks ok, so is that correct ? and now do i use Samsung Magician software to make a Over-provisioning partition ? and set trim etc? thx

Yes, those are the steps. As long as Windows recognises the drive as solid state, trim should be automatic.

And, yes, I believe you can have Samsung Magician create an over-provisioning partition after you've done with Disk Management. If you want to, that is - never bothered with that myself.

You're done.

I'd also download something to check it's never been used and all the counters are on 0, if you haven't already.

Thx guys, it all went well, and yes i checked with samsung magician software to make sure drive was genuine and not been used before, all good, just deciding what size to make the Over-provisioning partition, but 20% is like 800GB, not sure if to make one now, always thought you had to have one.

Oh, and because i now have 2 ssd's in my system, does windows enable trim on both ssd's automatically ? or only the ssd that the os is on, so i have to enable trim on the slave ssd myself ? i did check and its enabled on C ok, fsutil behavior set DisableDeleteNotify 0 , oh and magician software recommended 10% op, still like 372GB:( no way im doing 20% op

It's automatic for SSDs, but I think the command is query, not set.
