How to Set Up Dell U2711?

Just got my new monitor out the box and it is unusable.

I'm hoping it just needs setting up, I cannot even read the text properly that I'm typing in now.

Anyone got any advice please?

Right click the desktop, select nvidia control panel, then click on change resolution.

Is the display identified correctly at the top of the page?

Is the resolution set to 2560x1440

Is refresh set at 60hz?

oh, are you using a dual link dvi? single link dvi cannot handle resolutions above 1080p

Both DVI connectors on a GTX 580 are dual link.

The OP just needs to make sure they're using a dual link cable.

And they need to install their monitor drivers so that Windows knows what display modes it supports.

^its quite possible the op swapped his current monitor cable which is single link i guess.

Quite possible.

They need to use the one which came in the box with the monitor.

OK, I'm using the old DVI cable from my old monitor.

Looks like I need to use the one supplied with the Dell.

Don't sell yourself short, you can all have gold stars, I personally prefer Stella Artois.
