how to set up mega drive 2?

Go to a channel you're not using (8 or something?) then turn your megadrive on and fiddle with your TV's tuning functionality (how you do that is dependent on your TV) until you see it on screen. At least that's how I used to do it. :p

Is this a joke?

You either plug the scart connector in if you have one, then select the channel that corresponds to it.

Or

Plug the aerial socket in, select an empty channel that isn't being used, and start tuning it in with the console switched on.

There's no requirement to use "Channel 33"!

I think the megadrive is from a time before fancy things like lights that change colour, if I'm remembering rightly the red light just means that it's on.

Thanks. Also, when a game is in the megadrive, should the light on the console turn green? It's always red.

The Mega Drive uses red LEDs, it's normal.

These consoles of yore are not as weak and pathetic as the ones today. The red light stands in defiance of time, and for many a decade to come the console will continue to run games just fine.

(A more technical explanation is that there are less moving parts in a Mega Drive, if any at all - no wear and tear, and little to no heating solution needed that would otherwise pose problems down the road)

And indeed the most common failure on the MegaDrive II was the power button. One of probably 4 moving parts on the whole console (power button, reset button and 2 spring loaded flaps protecting the cartridge slot.)

OP, is this your first experience of a Megadrive?

It sounds more like this is the OPs first experience of tuning a television! Which to be honest, if he is a young whipper-snapper then fair enough.

I dunno, the generation these days, all too easy ;).

Pfft, get a SNES ;)
As well of course... :D

Zelda/Metroid/ChronoTrigger/Mario....some truly excellent games on that machine even if they are dated on the presentation side.

if your TV is fairly new make sure that in the menu settings 'Blue Screen' mode is turned OFF so that you get a snowy picture, then you should be able to see when the tuner is near the Mega Drives UHF frequency before you do a fine tune on that.

at least that is what I had to do on my 8 year old JVC when I got mega bomberman out of the loft not too long ago.

Nah it's not a joke. I have done a tune but it still sees nothing, which is why i am asking if the console should have a green light when turned on.

If your just getting a black screen and the red light is on then it might just mean the cartridge needs taking out and cartridge + slot need blowing out befor re-inserting the cartridge (ahhh good times!)

Also you can't tune these things in on a digital receiver, analogue only!

its somthing like the 60 hertz range iirc Ive got my megadrive hooked up to that but dont wanna mess with it as it took over a hour to configure it as my tv wont let me do individual hertz channels and only does auto scanning haha :D

How could you forget Street Fighter . I have fond memories of my neighbour babysitting me, he always used to bring his SNES for a few hours of Street Fighter .

It's not an exclusive

The graphics are better on the Mega Drive and it has the four boss fighters playable

The 'Super' Nintendo will never sell and is doomed to fail. Enjoy your kiddie games that nobody plays, Nintendolosers.

SF2:CE was released on the SNES as well I think... I owned it on the MD (Or Genesis if you're from the USA).
