Hi I am considering buying the samsung 840evo 256gb SSD to improve performance of my setup as below. That said I have nearly 200gb of games data excluding applications.

Should I put just a few of my heavy games on the SSD and the rest elsewhere, and is it really that important?

Is there any special setup such as raid that needs to be done ect... to take full advantage, sorry bit new to this SSD stuff

My Rig:
Motherboard GA-Z77-D3H
CPU: Intel i3 2120
Coolermaster 650w
Gigabyte GZ-G2 gaming case
8Gb Corsair Vengence 1600Mhz
GPU: Nvidia Zotac 660Ti
HDD's: Seagate 2TB 7200rpm, Hitachi 160gb 7200rpm, Seagate 160gb 7200rpm
Monitor: AOC 23" 2353PHz 3D monitor Resolution(1920x1080)Full HD
Windows 8.1 64Bit
Asus Phobeus ROG Soundcard

how much room does your operating system hdd take up?

if it were me id put the os onto the ssd with a few most played games and keep the hdd as storage for other games ect

if cloning just attach the old hdd/os and the new ssd

if doing a fresh windows install just attach the ssd(no other hdd's) once windows has installed then attach your other hdd's and set the ssd as first boot device in the bios and that's it

Thanks I think thats what I will do.

I have over 500gb of installed software/games, would it be easier to uninstall down to about 90gb and clone the drive over reinstall the other stuff on a different drive or do a fresh install with all the pain of reinstalling updates windows 8.1 ect......

yeah sure, but if the drives 256gb then try and scale it down to around 220gb ect so you can fit asmuch as you can onto the ssd

and cloning works fine using samsungs own migration tool(comes with the ssd)

Cool! Thanks Sold already. That was the biggest thing holding me back to be honest.

Now onto the hunt for a decent CPU what would you suggest, I really dont get the difference between an i5 quad and a i7 quad

i7 has hyperthreading 4 actual cores and four virtual cores so 8x in total, the i5's just have 4 actual cores

some games/programs (bf4) benefit from hyperthreading and xfire/sli would

up to your budget,if you can afford it then go for the i7,but the i5 is decent too

id say yeah if your a heavy b4 player or plan on going xfire/sli

if not then the i5 will be plenty

Just called the Local pc place and ordered my SSD but when I asked him about the processor he said I'd be better going for a ATI R9 280X instead as I wouldn't see the benefit of a faster processor. Not sure what to do now choices choices
