How to share internet connection advice

Hello Chaps, I have a question, one of my cousins is at uni, and he has a wired connection for the internet in to his room. Now what he wants to do is turn this connection so he can use it wireless for his laptop? is that possible and whats the best way to do so? cheers !!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can plug a router in and set it to be used as a access point.

Thats what i was thinking, but i wasnt to sure, and didnt want him buy a router and then it not work.!!

Careful, Uni accomodation more often than not require a username and password to be input into the device, so it needs to be a device that is compatible and able to hold the credentials like a laptop does.

Passwords/proxies are only a potential issue with non-computer devices. If it's just for a single laptop then any password scheme should still work exactly as before.
