How to shoot Fireworks?

what are peoples opions on the difference between a medium aperture (8-11) and a quicker aperture VS a smaller aperture (16-22) and a longer aperture ?

OMG I am soooooooooo getting a tripod and wil be standing by the field viewing into the town centre and hopefully get a lot of nice shots.

Thanks for the idea man =]

problem light polution from the actully town centre?

No problem at all (from my experience), remember you are only exposing for a couple of seconds so the lights won't really affect the end image.

A fast aperture will mean more light coming in, and could quite easily cause the fireworks to become over exposed, a much slower one could cause the fireworks to look underexposed. I tend to see the aperture as the thing to use to control the light entering the camera (for fireworks etc), and the shutter speed as just a way of controlling the amount of fireworks visible.

I'm with Amp34 - use the shutter speed to control the composition (number of bursts in the frame) and the aperture to correct the exposure to suit.
