How to spend £200

Hi,

I have a new job, i'm nowhere near rich. I'm a student ( Comp Sci and Management at Nottingham uni ), but doing pretty well with this other job.
So, when I get paid, I like to take a chunk of it and buy myself something, something i'll enjoy, something that will be a laugh for a year or so... mainly, because I know that money is worth more to me now ( while i'm 21 ), than the £200 will be worth to me when i'm older ( or at least, I hope ). Also, it's good to buy yourself stuff to as a treat to remind you why you spend SO much time working, and something to help you relax.

Anyway, so.. it's come to the time again, I have approx £200 to spend, and this time.. I have no idea what to spend it on. Last time I saved up and bought a ridiculous TV, way too big for my room, but great to play fifa on with some mates. ( 50" plasma from a local shop I saw every day walking past )

So... my question is, what would you spend it on?
I do have a tendancy towards technology, I was thinking a new graphics card ( maybe ATI 6900s when they come out ). I thought I could totally mod my case, I thought I could spend it on beer pong and other such games. Anything to make life a bit more fun. ( I spend most of my time infront of a PC, either uni or work ).

Maybe an iPod? Hmmm. maybe a track day? I'm not very creative with these things... What would you suggest??
Anything? Absolutely anything. Maybe a smoke machine for parties, a light display, who knows? I'd rather something that I can keep for a year or so,.. so, not like a £200 firework haha.

Would be interesting to read other peoples ideas, and also interesting to see if anyone else takes this approach when they get paid? I don't spend a lot of money through the month, I do go out and drink, but not as often as many ( and, the student loans etc pretty much pay for any student that wants to go out and get lashed every night, then students moan they're skint, it's dumb ).

So... Any ideas?

Buy something that encourages creativity. Like an instrument. Or a camera. Get something where YOU create stuff rather than having it done for you or monging out in front of a massive TV.

Why don't you go somewhere with it?.. If I had a spare £200, I would either save it and add to it to go on some sort of adventure or just book a short weekend somewhere I've never been before.

I sort of did the same thing when i graduated. Landed myself a decent job right after graduating with a first, so spent most of my first pay cheque on a £1k bike :D.

Camera is a good idea, if you don't own one already.

If I was in your position, I'd blow £75 of it on lego technics, another £75 on an arduino and some other electronic components.. and the rest on a meal with my girlfriend.

Buy yourself a book/dvd/cd and save the rest for something substantial. There is not much point in blowing it away just for the sake of it.

Lego technics! Genius!

A camera,.. I would like a camera, but the thing is that I have one on my phone already and I don't tend to want to take photos with that so often.
I like the idea of an instrument, I am not very good with any so I guess I could learn! Meal with girlfriend, perfect idea. I think I will do exactly that.

I like the idea of saving it, but my last pay ( slightly more than this one ), i invested £250 in the bangladesh stock market with that idea. I also have a savings account which I put money in which will tide me over if anything goes hugely wrong.

If not doing this then save it :)

Exactly how my (non day to day) spending works Lysander!

Save the money for when you pay off your student loan ;)

Or as somone said, save it up and buy something big. e.g. a car. your use that for more than a year :)

Save the money for when you want something. Lol, going out of your way to spend money just sounds impratical. Man, I wish I didn't want things, there's so many things I want and not enough money to buy them :D

But if you had all the money in the world then you would get bored, because there is the factor of "I have been waiting so and so amount of time, or I have worked this hard" which makes it rewarding.

Next month a popular pc high street store is launching a tablet pc with android akin to the iPad with decent specs for £250. I just bought an iPad and love it for £500, so it only needs to b e half as good to be worth it (but the specs at least suggest it will be great). Suposedly called the vega tablet
