Hey guys. I was looking at getting a good 22" monitor or an averagey 24" after easter for around £200. Currently at 19" and can play all my games easily on full settings but would probably struggle if I went all the way to 24" screen but would be nice to watch full HD films.

However, now Im thinking about it and maybe spending my money elsewhere. Ive been looking at getting a new case as my current one was n act of desperation!! Needed a case ASAP so got the cheapest one at my local shop. Needless to say its a bit useless! Ive been looking at getting a Lian Li.

So basically the question is what would you go for? New monitor and suffer a little in the games, or this selection of things:

Need a northbridge block anyway so included it. The fans are for the case intake and 3 for my rads. Plus my current DVD drive is IDE so an upgrade to S-ATA would be nice. Its basically just a little selection of small upgrades and things to make it look better :p

I know its mainly opinion here, but Im seriously torn between them! :(

Thanks

How will the above upgrades help with watching Bluray/HD? - it comes down to which you see as essential and which can wait, I would go for the bigger monitor, but I have a nice case :)

Thats it, got to choose between those or a monitor which will be able to display in HD :p

Not a bad idea Sketch, looks quite a good monitor for the money as well. Would cost a little more than I was planning but Im sure I could stretch my cash a bit

i've just recently purchased that asus monitor from OC, and am really impressed with what you get for 150quid.

picture quality is great, i've also used it to play my ps3 and xbox 360, even the sound is ok.

Theonly slight problem is that for 150quid you cant expect everything and the build quality is slightly light plasticky (although very shiny) and the buttons tend to feel a bit clicky and flimsy.

but i would definately recommend it if your on a budget :)

I wouldnt recommend the Samsung Lightscribe DVD-RW burner.

Had mine just two and a half weeks and its gone faulty. There are a few reports of others having similar problems. I'd go with one of the other burners if i were you. :)

^I've got two of these drives and had no problems at all, been using them for 4 months and two years or so.

Well, Debian 4.0 wouldn't recognise them. But otherwise excellent :)

I put the lightscribe just because I think its a novelty really. Plus its a Samsung, same as my current drive which Ive never had any problems with.

I may get the monitor and chipset waterblock, will hold off on the case until I can get everything. Dont really want to get a nice case like that and stick my old beige DVD drive in the front of it haha

Function first form second though not everyone agrees! So lcd widescreen monitor

Samsung drives is a bit dear expected below 20 ex VAt, would you really use the lightscribe?

You could have a blu ray reader and keep your ide dvd writer in the new case for not a lot more if you also drop the bezel

Why not a new case and a cpu upgrade? To either a quad
or a big boy's dual core?

I was intending to upgrade my CPU as I thought my current one would be useless in games, but after a good bit of overclocking it runs fine. Get average around 65fps in COD5 and 40fps in GRID all on full settings. Dont really use my PC for much more CPU intensive things, just general use, maybe video encoding once a month or so but dont need the CPU upgrade just yet. Give it another 4 or 5 months haha

Well the cheapest DVD drive is only about £3 cheaper anyway, Im not too bothered about that :p And I probably would use lightscribe anytime I burn a DVD really. I know its basically a fancy CD marker pen lol, bu I quite like it :)
