Hi everyone,

Im getting this annyoing slow downs in my games which is really bugging me and have a dual monitor setup now i have decided to monitor everything while im gaming. I have noticed that my 2d & 3d setings on my 5850 are forever changing during game. I am using msi to monitor it and everytime you go to a cut scene in mafia the core clock drops to 400mhz and when it finishes it goes back up to 725mhz. I really think this is what could be causing my slow downs but i cant seem to find a way to stop my 5850 from down clocking to 400mhz 2d mode in ccc. I have tried setting a 2d & 3d profile in msi both with the same stock 5850 settings 725/1000 but the same thing was happening.

Any ideas guys?

Many thanks

That's dodgy ATI powerplay for you, had the same problems with BF2 and clocks going down and causing stuttering. I created a profile in CCC and edited the profile xml file so the clocks are set to max for low GPU usage, just need to activate the profile when you play a game where clocks drop. On a GTX 480 you have a setting that can disable power management features for select games or all, is that so hard for ATI to implement in their software.

Unlock unofficial overclocking with MSI Afterburner, 3D clocks are bound to stay at their finest.

I love the way Raven promotes his 480 every ****ing time someone has a problem with ATI cards.

How do i go about unlocking that mate? As far as i thought i had full control via msi. I have the voltage control and everything?

And why not, common problem downclocking in not so intensive games with ATI, I experienced it myself, beggars believe why they don't sort it like Nvidia has, what's wrong with pointing that fact out. In case you didn't notice but I gave the OP advise on how to stop it happening, and unofficial overclocking is not the most stable method to use. I suggest you stop having a go at other members and also suggest you star out the whole swear word.

C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner

Edit MSIAfterburner CFG file with notepad, look for the line EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 0 change the 0 to 1 save it and restart afterburner, you need to have an overclock on for the clocks to not go down in game, default clocks will still use powerplay with this method.

Be warned using this method my cause stability problems as noted by the developer, using the method I suggested means you only need to apply the profile when required and then apply your default clocks profile when not required.
