OcUK, I am becoming a fatty. It disgusts me more and more.

How do you stop yourself from eating all the pie?

There is always something to eat, in the fridge or in the cupboards. And once I've started eating something, well at first I'll tell myself "I'll just have a banana." Then it's "OK, I'll just have a bowl of cereal, that's healthy."

Then it's on the scones and jam, then the left-over curry I was going to eat tomorrow, then...

I'm now a 36" waist :(

There must be some magic trick that doesn't involve willpower, because I don't even know the meaning of that word.

Title fixed.

Concentrate on diet, not meals - if you're hungry it's best to eat but you may just be bored if you've got into that habit - try a pint of water instead. If you're still hungry eat something.

And why do you have jam and scones in the house? Curry is fine just don't load up with rice+naan too.

I find a proper breakfast keeps cravings away for the rest of the day. Porridge or eggs+bacon are both good. Doesn't need to be rabbit food.

And cereal isn't healthy.

Edit: Do you even know how many calories you've eaten in a day? Or how many is in that banana? You may have been better off having that banana at breakfast, then knowing what you need at tea just going straight for the curry.

Whoa. How deep does this rabbit hole go?

(in other words, I always assumed it was good for you!)

Well think about it, it's mostly carbohydrate based.

If you want to lose FAT you will want to eat 'clean' carbs and eat a restricted amount of them.

You need to be using more calories than you are consuming (to a sensible degree) and have most of your calories from fats and proteins. And no, fats do not make you fat, excess carbs and excess calories make you fat.

Think I covered everything there chaps? :p

Head over to sports arena and ask about macros, there's already a weight loss thread you can read / add to.

Edit: this covers more of the eating out of habit / boredom / comfort problem which I think is generally the problem in the west.

If you could learn a little about nutrition and un-learn your bad habits I think you'd find it easy to lose weight.

You need protein, fat and sugar (carbs). Plan out the protein/fat you want to eat first (either RDA or as advised if training) then fill out the rest of the calories you calculate you need with carbs.

If you have things like whole wheat bread / pasta it'll likely make you feel full for longer but frankly it doesn't matter. All that matters is you get the right things in you and the total is a little below what you are using to live / move / exercise.

Did I mention drink water?
