How to store a mattress and duvet

Right, so I am moving back into my mums for 6-9 months this Saturday to get back on my feet and finalise a deposit.

I have my good, old single bed that my mum has kept for me bless her lol, but I have no idea how to store my queen size mattress and duvet that I currently have at my place! It will need to go in the outside garage she has, which is not 100% watertight.

What options do I have? I was thinking something like a storage container, or warehouse. As I also might need to store the sofa as well as I have no cover or anything for it

Theres hundreds of these self store places aboit these days. Use one of them

Storage cost Vs. selling it cheap and buying another when the time comes.

I would be tempted to wrap it in plastic and chance it in the garage, keep it off the floor and air it out well before use.

I guess a lot depends on if it is an expensive matress and what condition it's in - same goes for the sofa.

For the duvet some of those vacuum bags for storing bedding that'll keep it small and fine i na garage, and for the mattress not sure could always risk wrapping it up in plastic and putting it in there but might not be the best.

As awsome and easy this would be, it's pretty expensive... If it was for a few weeks I would have no quibble, but I just rang for a quote and they wanted £20 odd a week for over 6 months for 50 square foot...

Mind you, probably get away with 20 square foot.

Garage + bin liners + gaffer tape.

You can also buy those vacuum bags for storing things like duvets in small places.

Thats the thing, if you are going to store it for any legnth of time in paid storage, then it might be cheaper to just cut your losses and buy a new matress when the time comes.

Or just stick it in the garage, wrap it it as well as you can and hopefully it wont go moldy.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, the mattress and sofa are less than 8 months old, both still smell like new! So would not like to sell as I would be making a loss.

I think my best bet is as said, cover the mattress in plastic and tape it up, leave it to air several days before using again.

As for the sofa, I am sure I can pick up one of those heavy duty blue covers (waterproof) and wrap it around the sofa with the duvet on the inside (duvet is easily replaceable) which will at least keep it water proof.

Why can't you use the duvet with your single bed? really..

You clearly use the enormous duvet on the tiny bed. There can never be too much duvet.

The more duvet you have, the bigger cocoon you can from in the winter.

Urgh, hate excess duvet lol, I only cover my man bits 9 times out of 10 when sleeping, love sleeping cold

Bless them, mums are like that. Mine kept a spare bed in the dining room of her 1 bed until I hit my late thirties

She stopped once we started with Hotels.

I know, they are awsome

Free laundry, free food, free place to stay... The list goes on! I tried to offer rent but she refused lol. I will just have to sneak in the odd food shop here and there.

So, your Mum has an old Single bed that she kept and presumably no-one ever used it except you. You have a Queen-Sized bed that you want to keep as it's new but you are moving back with your Mum. You don't want to store your new Bed in a garage.

Clearly the ideal solution would be to REPLACE your old unused Single bed with your new Queen-Sized bed and then store the old unused Single bed in the Garage or even dump it. Simple. :confused:

Space plays a huge factor here, your solution is simple yes, but not possible in my situation lol.
