I've me it through school, college and uni even got a 2:1 in Software Engineering During this time I've always done subjects that don't involve a great deal of writing, Maths and science mainly. So writing has never been a big problem however I have a real problem with problem with writing. I can talk about the difference in spelling and meaning between who and how or thought and though but when it comes to writing 6 out of 10 times i get them confused.

This is just the tip of the iceberg really and it is deeply embarrassing at work because of the constant errors when writing emails, bug reports, reports etc. Is there a way to find out if i am mildly dyslexic and to get help with it?

PS. it took me about 20 mins of reading several times to get this 2 paragraph post right!

Maybe first aproach your doctor.

My partner has dyslexia, she got some help. I will ask her in the morning. Over the last year her literacy skills have changed like night to day. :)

It seems fashionable these days for anyone who simply can't be bothered to learn to spell correctly to claim that they're dyslexic, so just go for it. There's no need to get it confirmed officially, just assume that you are in the same way that the majority of lazy buggers do.

Not that I'm saying you are a lazy bugger specifically because I don't know you.

I really didn't think it was a doctor issue, i may talk to them.

@Feek, if i was truly lazy i wouldn't admit it was a problem and what to do something about it!

if you were truly lazy you wouldnt of even got off your bum to post about it :)

You need to pay a nice man a few hundred quid to get a nice piece of documentation that tells you weather you have Dyslexia, Dyscalculia or just a low IQ.

you can take a dsylexic test.. (think we all had to when starting college)

not sure whether you have to pass or fail it though :S

Reading your post Will, I think that you may have an issue, albeit mild. If you read your post again, you repeat yourself a few times.

I used to work with a dyslexic genius. He was amazingly intelligent, but had trouble with his own name. I used to write all his e-mails for him and he taught me an awful lot about networking and servers.

On the flip side, I worked with someone who claimed to be dyslexic so the world would take pity on him, but he really was a poorly educated donut. He is now a manager in BT

In basic English pay a man some dosh to tell you are not right the head from the NHS to get benefits? Close!

There are tests ,I'm sure you could find some online ,college and schools also have them for students although I don't think they can do much to help you once they diagnose you !
I'm partially dyslexic as is my gf boy and I use to type in serial numbers at work incorrectly and often spell things incorrectly but notice them when reading back ( I think ;) )
Use a spell checker !
