How to tell which Athlon 64 X2 Chip ?

I have a rig that i plan to sort out for my boy to game on, When i got it the screws for the backplate of the CPU cooler were missing so, I cant even fire it up yet.

I took out the CPU and it only says Athlon 64 X2 and a huge bunch of numbers.

Can i tell from those numbers which chip i have ?

I just did

Athlon 64 X2 4400+

2300 MHz 2 x 512 KB 1000 MHz 11.5x 1.325V-1.375V 65 W Socket AM2 October 8, 2007 ADO4400IAA5DO (G2)

Looks like it's near the bottom of the 'Brisbane' line of chips. Very little cache.

Is this CPU able to keep up with todays games running with a Sapphire 4850 512Mb ?


Anyone know the easiest way to source these screws for the backplate or, Would i be best going for a cheap AM2 cooler ?

It's a Foxconn A6VMX - AM3 compatible with a BIOS update i'm reading.

This motherboard replaced another when i thought the GPU chip had gone, Same thing again after a few months, Thinking it could be the 350W PSU.

Just looking for a cheap system for my boy to play some games on.

It'll keep up with a lot of todays games with that graphics card. Not all though & when you do hit a limit its more likely to be the CPU. I'd certainly give it a whirl before you buy a replacement though.

I could run COD4/COD5 at good framerates, all valve games, crysis (just about playable) and plenty of other things on that chip and an 8800gt. It will be fine.

I probably will, It only has 1GB of 667 RAM though, I might need to buy some, Prices are crazy just now though.

He is very good at breaking things, Expensive electronic things

I think he could cope with low - medium settings, I'm not breaking the bank for it but, It's a good excuse for me to upgrade my GPU

My uncles old computer, I gave him my old P4 system.

The problem with it, I only found out last night was, In the BIOS the internal GPU was disabled, I only realized once i put a dedicated card in it.

Just need to get a HDD some RAM and test it out, See how well it runs games like COD 5/6 ect.

it will be fine i play on a athlon 64X2 3800+ oc'd to 2400 MHZ with a 4870 Sapphire i can run crysis at high settings with no problems on a res of 1680:1050 as long as i don't use AA which i don't much anyway then it runs very smooth start turning on the AA tho and things get a little choppy lol
