Hi, please can you help me by explaining how I can transfer all the information off a HDD in a laptop onto my PC? my friends laptop wont boot up when you press the power switch it does nothing so am guessing its the PSU thats died. Anyways I was wondering do HDD's in laptops have the same connections as a PC? and can we just open up her laptop and take the HDD out and plug it in to my PC. Which is the best way for doing this?

Thanks in advance,

If it's a newer laptop then it may have a SATA disk in which case you can just plug it into your desktop. If however it has an older PATA disk then you will need a 3.5"-2.5" adaptor which can be had on the 'bay for a few quid.

Got a useful little gadget at work that would be ideal for you....

It's got a USB connection one end and then you can have either SATA or IDE + power on the other. Plug any hard disk onto it, plug USB into a PC and the drive appears in Windows ! !

Got me out of the pooh a few times ! !
