not really sure where this should go really, but i guess a bit of software is needed so i'll stick it into the windows forum, feel free to move it mods if its wrong.

sitting in the pub with friends and i'm sat there thinking that we pile a fair amount of money most weekends into the jukebox, just to be able to hear stuff we like.

it got me thinking about somehow making my own jukebox for when i have people over, with a similar touchscreen interface for ease of music selection.

any ideas how i would even go about doing something like this? the simplest way would be to mount an ipod touch to the wall but i want to be able to do more advanced thingslike queue stuff up to play after a song finishes, sort of like how the "party mode" in itunes works etc.

will look into that thanks, any idea about hardware, done a bit of reading around and an elo touchscreen is what i should be looking for --anyone with experiences with them?

Theatre view for J.River Media Centre 13 works very nicely with a touchscreen, although the app is payware :) (More than worth it IMHO, have been using for close to three years & beta-testing for a while now)
Have a play with the demo & a ferret through their forums and see if it's any good for what you've after (Theatre View can equally be operated with a mouse, same principles)

Take a look at the Sonos system as well. It now has the ability to use the software on an iPhone to act as the remote. Alternatively the SOnos remote is great, if not relatively expensive.

thanks for the suggestions, i'm not adverse to using something that isnt freeware if its "that good" --reading around the web a bit and going to give albumplayer a shot too.

if anyone's interested, i tried the demo at http://www.freeboxjukebox.com/ and it seems like the one i'm going to go for.

it does all the things i want, plays random songs, if someone chooses a song, it queues it up, shows whats playing and whats next, touchscreen-able (works great with the elo i got) and just generally everything that a pub jukebox is able to do, this can do.
