i am trying to get the 310mm brake upgrade off the 200sx to sell on, but having great difficulty undoing the bolts holding on the spacer brackets for the calipers.

i have already tried some liberal application of WD40 and a soaking in period with no joy.

any other ideas?? :(

Blowlamp? Breaker bar?

Have you tried knocking the bolt clockwise (as in tightening it) then re-trying anti-clockwise?

Used to work on a lot of rusty old bolts I had to undo after giving them a soaking in oil

Good luck anyhoo

Torque wrench + liberal force?

already tried this.

unfortunately the bolt only has a recess for a hex bit to fit in rather than socket set to get round and it keeps slipping out. :(

Can you not simply hammer a socket over the top then?

Just what i was thinking :)

Try getting some proper penetrating oil from halfords. Get the longest breaker bar they sell as well whilst your there.

Some brake's I've worked on have used left-hand thread's, caught me out a few times, may be worth a try..

See if you can get some heat on it. Try to heat up the area around the bolt. Blowlamps don't generally get hot enough for this, you'd really need to get a welding torch (you sometimes have to get the metal glowing!) or something along those lines. Also, give the top of the bolt a good few whacks with a hammer, but make sure you hit it dead square as you don't want to damage the head of the bolt. Probably best to get a punch which is bigger than the bolt and give that a good clout. :D

torque wrench to UNDO a bolt? I've never heard of this, I thought torque wrenches were for tightening bolts to a specified torque. Using it to undo a bolt especially with a breaker bar is likely to ruin your wrench, as well as the other sufggestion using a rachet and breaker bar... I've done this and if the bolt is stuck tight, it'll just break your rachet.

Don't use a torque wrench to undo, it'll break/wear.

Use the biggest breaker bar you can, and it will either shear or come undone. 50/50 chance eh? :D

if the hex (allen) key is slipping try hammering in a torx one, sometimes helps. Also make sure its got a *really* good fit before applying force.

I'd go for a breaker bar. If that fails then try an impact wrench or get the drill out.

IIRC you were supposed to use thread lock with the 310 kit, so a bit of heat should loosen it up a bit

rust flash ambersil rust loosener with freeze shock ...or alternatively one of the methods suggested above
