How to unlock quad core on dual core

hi just got the msi 870 c45 board and a x2 phenom be ...the board says it can be upped from 2 core to 4 core....is this possible with every chip....if so what steps do i need to do ...ive enabled teh core unlock option is there anything else like voltage or that i need to adjust as it still only reads as dual core thanks

yes and no. from my understanding they were all 4 cores, but then some failed stability testing so they turned those cores off and sold them as X3 or X2 chips. so yes, enabling should be possible, but its trial and error on which cores are stable and how many you can have.
 
I have 0 experinece doing this, but it occured to me, you may have some luck if you unlock the cores, but then underclock the cpu slightly, that is if the unlocked cores prove to be unstable.....
 
yeh testing is good.
anything that stresses the cpu like intelburn, prime95, occt........... even something like 3dmark will stress the cpu, although not as much as the others.
 
ill go get one of them give it a try thanks guys.....ohh yeah with it going from 2 to 4 cores do i need to alter voltage or anything?
 
Wrong.

More often than not unlocked cores need more volts put through them to make them stable.

fair enough, pretty much everything i read when i was looking into it pointed to the fact it was just a case of trying different combinations of cores until you found a stable setup.
