How to update BIOS without putting it on a floppy?

I've got an old NEC M300 laptop here I'm trying to get working with Windows 7. It will boot in safe mode but not normal mode. In normal mode just after the Windows 7 logo splash screen appears it blue screens and the error says 'The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI Compliant'.

Having Googled the error it seems that some folk have had a bit of success by updating the BIOS. However, the only BIOS update I can find is in the form of an .exe file which immediately wants me to write it to a floppy disc. When you double click on the BIOS update a box pops up which says 'Select floppy to write' - no other options. I can't appear to extract the contents of the .exe file or anything. So my question is this - can I put this BIOS update onto a CDR/DVDR and make it bootable? If so, can someone explain how?

Many thanks! :)

Try extracting the exe with 7zip.

Make a dos bootable USB drive using Rufus, copy the files to the USB and boot from it

Unfortunately I can't seem to get the laptop to boot from a USB drive formatted using Rufus and with the BIOS .exe on it for some reason, despite setting the boot order in the BIOS. How do I do it using a CDR?
