Lads,
been on the AMD road the last few years until earlier this month. Just wondering what people have found to be the best way of updating the chipset INFs on 975X boards etc, or do people bother.
Looking on the Intel site it looks as though you have to go through the device manager manually, which seems like an awkward way of doing things.
Asking because I was looking into updating the files for the ASUS P5W DH..

Cheers

Here's what your looking for, The latest non beta chipset update utility software.

(Official Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility 8.1.1.1001)

The Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility installs to the target system the Windows* INF files that outline to the operating system how the chipset components will be configured. This is needed for the proper functioning of the following features:

Core PCI and ISA PNP Services
AGP Support
IDE/ATA33/ATA66/ATA100 Storage Support
USB Support
Identification of Intel Chipset Components in the Device Manager

Note: This release adds Intel(r) 915GL/915PL/965X and 975X Express Chipset support.

To install, just click on the infinst_autol.exe

You really don't need to update the Intel software.
You're simply installing some .inf files that tell Windows how to setup various bits of hardware.
As each new release of the Chipset software is released it simply adds support for new chipsets etc.

Once the OS knows how to set the hardware up it doesn't really need to be told again.

Do you need to update though as new versions of the inf installation utility are released?

You can run the file grand, but according to Intel, it won't update if the package is already present on your computer...........the only way around it is to down the zip package and install manually..
I suppose there isn't much point if your PC is running fine.....I was just wondering if people do this on a regular basis, ala NForce driver updates..

Intel chipset drivers are normally very stable, so there is really no need to update them very often, Unlike SIS/NForce/VIA, where its a good idea to always use the latest.

I normally use the Intel chipset driver from the original motherboard CD and pretty much never download any replacement. Never had any problems either.

Like right now, running a socket 478 motherboard with intel 875 chipset, and still using the drivers from the original CD. Intel chipsets are very low maintainance.
