Hi Folks,

I need some advice regarding the selling of an e-commerce site.

I made a thread on a business forum asking about how to sell off my unsold stock for a business I set up in my spare time. However, there has been quite a bit of interest in people wanting to purchase the site from me.

The site doesn't get many hits, the seo isn't particularly good however it took me a lot of time to change the template and take photos of stock/ make logos etc so I'd like to be compensated for my time.

How do you value a website, how do you decide on a price etc?

Auction? Sounds a bit silly but I'd guess there is no foolproof way. If allowed by the forum you could always stick it on ebay and link it to the forum. That way those on that forum would be able to bid for it.

I would say if your site had a lot of regular traffic it would most likely be worth quite a bit. I guess it can also depend on the domain name and how desperate they are to buy it :p . But I think Amp34 suggestion is probably the best. Make the people who are interested aware of the auction and let them fight amongst them self’s. :p

i think goaddy has a auction site for domains don't know about a full site but it might tell your domain is worth a lot (it works it out by traffic & other stuff

Work out potential income for a year. If people are this interested it might be worth re-evaluating your involvement with the site as they obviously think they can make some money out of it even with a purchase price.

When I sold my hosting biz off a couple of years ago it was 10 x monthly profit.

However, I am guessing the hosting world has changed a lot and prices won't be that good - whether you can transpose that onto a business website I don't know :)
