After a bit of searching I think it's due to the old SATA drive being installed in SATA IDE mode, and now the mobo is in AHCI mode it can't read it?

Do I need to reboot into the old OS on the old hard drive to install some drivers or is there anything I can do from the new Windows 7 install on the SSD to access it?

It does currently appear in My Computer but I can't access any of the files.

That's because of security settings, you need to take ownership via the security tab under properties.

Nothing to do with AHCI/IDE. That does nothing to the drive at all, it only concerns the OS in use and drivers.
