How well did/would you clean a flat before moving out?

Would you clean every inch, shampoo the carpets, wash the curtains, dust every area etc.., and what about little scrathes here and there, maybe a burn mark here and there etc??

Any tips?

Good hoover, kill the mould left by unsanitary house mates, clean the shower, toilet and windows, bin stuff that's just lying about.

Or just burn it down, that'll clean it nicely.

Several days of cleaning, touching up etc.
Then get estate/landlord to come view it a minimum of a day before you have to be out, if its all good, hand keys back, if they aren't happy with something, gives you plenty of time to put it right.

It's your deposit and worth a lot of money. If they have to pay someone to come clean its expensive, same if carpets need washing. I generally wash the carpets if they're looking a bit bad. Far cheaper than them doing it. Especially as they come up on groupon so often.

Several days of cleaning. Hired a pro to clean the carpets and oven. Repainted parts of walls that needed doing, and spent 2 days in the garden, front and back, sorting it out. Got all my deposit back though, so all worth it!

Depends on the expectations of the letting agent.

If it's an old property with knocks and dents then you can get away with not much. I've mostly lived in expensive new build apartments unfortunately which means they're very anal. And with £1k+ deposit it's worth spending a bit of time!

whenever I have moved out of a rented place I clean it as best I can touch in any scuffs on the wall and so on.

Even if they get a cleaner in its usually only 40 or 50 quid. Somthing I could live with as I hate cleaning lol

When we were renting we moved about quite a lot. When we moved in and out we took photos, lots of photos (~100) I think we had 3 landlords try it on. TDS sorted it for us every time :)

bonds have been pretty big on the two properties i have rented so me n misses left them in way better state than we found them as im not losing out on hundreds of pounds for some make believe cleaning company to come and not do the job.

I rented a furnished flat, cleaned it top to bottom, touched up paint, it looked pukka when I left. landlord showed up, flipped the mattress over and showed me a fag burn - I strongly denied it, he said that I didn't tick the box from the initial inspection to say there was a fag burn on the mattress. He kept the deposit.

Last place I was renting when we left we hoovered throughout, didn't shampoo any carpets as we knew the landlord would have someone do that anyway regardless, wiped down all the surfaces, touched up the paint, washed curtains, etc.

And took a ton of pictures - which came in really useful.

is there a list of reaspons a deposit was kept by landlords or something?

I bet that same fag burn is on every other tenant who ever lived there ......

Considering the size of deposits these days I'd have taken that up with the dispute organisation. Wouldn't cost much to repair a hole in a matress from a ciggie.
