How well does a 670 cope at high resolution gaming??

I've got SLI GTX 480's and a Hazro HZ27WC @ 2560x1440. The graphics cards together are faster than a single GTX 670 and I'd say you'd want a little bit more power at that resolution. Probably 2x670's if you are gonna play battlefield 3 at that resolution all HIGH or ULTRA:)

Depends on settings....

The Vram is not an issue if thats what your trying to get at but,

For full setting you will need two in bf3, metro ect.

But one will handle 90% of the games out there no problem

For FPS, 120hz is a must. For anything else I'd prob go with a higher res.

Very tempting, but i'd save £80 in getting the S23A750D over the DGM. Effectively that would be "Should I get a 120hz and an SSD for the price of a DGM?"

It would be great to have that size of screen but i'm one of those who must achieve 60fps with Ultra settings (not fussed about AA). I have until Wednesday to decide anyway.

You can nobble a 670 at 1080, it depends on the games and how you define nobble, I suppose.

You aren't going to get a constant 60fps out of The Witcher 2, it can drop as low as the late 30s early 40s, Arma 2 just flattens a 670 if you whack everything up, hovers around 30-40 outdoors.

So a 670 is enough? Couldn't I just play BF3 on Ultra at 1080 on that size of screen? How would it fair on High at 2560x1440.

Someone made a great point about needing the power to run both. If you can't push 120fps in modern games then it just remains a TN panel. If I can't push 60fps maxed out, I could lower to 1080 or certain settings like no AA or notch shadows down one, but i'd still have a big screen, great colour reproduction, etc.

After his comment, it's really appealing.. but would it justify the £80 extra over the S23A750D? I play FPS', racing games, SWTOR (some mmo's), watch films, do video editing, etc. What's the lag going to be like? Currently on a Cibox 22" monitor at the moment which rates at 5ms.

Thought this shouldn't justify a new thread really.

Well, my main games are FPS so I went for the 120hz. If my main game was MMO's or RPG's or summit then I'd prob go for the high res. Depends on what games you want to be playing the most.

Another alternative is pairing this 120hz with my current Cibox monitor. I'd have an expanded desktop and smoother gameplay. When I had a BenQ XL2420T, you could tell the difference on BF3, even at 60fps; mostly as it changed between 60-90.

It's hard, but I would save £80 and gaming is my priority at home with video editing being done on the Macs at our University.

The glass of the S23A750D also makes the picture quality better too apparently, so think i'm sold on that especially if I grab an SSD too.

It depends on the game. I imagine most console ports/multiplatform games will be fine, until the new consoles arrive. I'm not saying that the 670 is a slow card, it's not, I just think it's slow for what you will pay. I've maybe got unrealistic expectations but £330 or more on one component of a gaming machine and I'm expecting to be able to play everything at max and get great fps. 670 and 7970 don't do that.

I'm spending a lot less(7950) and not expecting miracles and then looking to whatever gets released next year.

I play on 1440p with one 670. It copes fine, it has more than enough power.

Very much depends on settings, with any kinda of high/ultra setup I dont see 60fps constant in games. Infact i see 45-55!

Found myself recently playing at 1080p res, just to get a feel for how fast it can run.

single 670

I also do this with my 2 monitors but because I don't use a proper active adapter I only have 120hz on one screen and 60hz on the other. The GPU can only output the 60hz so BF3 is a mess on the main 120hz screen. The only way around it is to plug out the cable from the GPU of the 60hz screen before loading and putting it back in when you're finished.

I was fine having one monitor running in 120hz and the other in 60hz on the desktop a while back. Getting the Samsung would mean having one matte 60hz monitor alongside a 120hz glossy. My 60hz will just be for "extra space" anyway.

Desktop will say 120hz but when looking at the cursor moving and scanning in FPS it is only running at 60hz. Maybe you can't notice it but is does happen, I've spent ages testing around with it.

Are you sure? I can totally see the difference with my 120hz next to my 60hz.

Yeah I'm 99.999999% sure. If I'm playing BF3 when my other monitor is plugged in it only refreshes at 60hz. Maybe other cards can output 60 and 120hz simultaneously but it doesn't work for me.
