how well has final fantasy 7 aged?

Every article i've read has stated it's a complete 'from the ground up' remake. Not just a boost in graphics.

Hmmmmm.....maybe you should look at it again? I see the words "re-released in HD" which simply implies just that.

Even so, it would be quite expensive for Square-Enix at this current time to do a full ground-up remake, eating up development time and resources, especially when they are taking so long for the likes of Versus XIII.

When I first heard about FFX HD I thought it was just an upscale like the Metal Gear ones etc. But then I heard it's totally redone with the XIII graphics engine.

Square Enix 1st Department seems to be handling it personally, overseen by Kitase and Nomura, seems a bit high profile for a basic HD version.

That would be ****ing awesome if that was the case.

Unfortunately, seeing that this is to be re-released on the Vita as well, it would suggest otherwise.

And a quick google search came up with this http://www.analoghype.com/video-games/playstation-3-news/confirmed-final-fantasy-x-hd-is-a-remaster/.

The Square Enix 1st Department handling would probably just mean that they are fully doing this remaster themselves, and not hiring out or getting extra help from a 3rd-party.

Previous releases, especially much of the the older games were in collaboration with TOSE.

FFIII and IV DS remakes were co-developed with Matrix Software.

Gets really confusing sometimes.

I would say the only thing that they could meddle with is the voice acting.

Get the same cast back and re-record it all in a much better tone. Get it up to FFXII's quality, which personally for me has the best of the bunch. Though FFX's laughing scene has became a classic in it's own right.

I downloaded vii, viii and ix last week, vii is one of my all time favorite games, closely followed by ix, then x. I've stopped playing bf3, and Skyrim, there that good, shame the new ffxiii-2 is crap compared to the old gems.

I just bought a PSP so I can play FFVII on the train to work... so yes, it's aged well! (Of course this may be just me being biased due to nostalgia :p)

It's still one of the greatest games ever made.

I would love then to make a remake and I'm sure it would sell by the bucket load. PLEASE SQUARE!!

Or some sort of sequel in the same vein as FF7 (I couldn't really get into Crisis Core).

It certainly puts newer titles firmly in the shade, can't think of another game, PC or console, that has the depth of FFVII. The replayability is fantastic as there is always something you miss first time round and the side-quests/games are fantastic.

I own the original disks still on my PS1 and on a few occasions I have been sorely tempted to give it another go but finding the time can be a problem - oh and the mrs wanting to use the TV in the evening :p

Although the 3D characters may look dated, they still have their charm and the pre-rendered backgrounds are stunning.

The music is the best I've heard in a game, bar none.

And the gameplay speaks for its self. :p

Initiate fanboy mode.

Certainly agree with that, the soundtrack is amazing and Nobuo Uematsu is a genius.

I got the soundtrack to Final Fantasy Advent Children (the film that sort of follows on from FFVII) and on many occasion have I had the whole album play through when at my PC :)

It's a shame that they changed and redone a lot of the tracks for the Complete version of the movie since some of the original versions I thought were much better. Battle in the Forgotten City was one of them. I wasn't too fond of the dramatic shift in the ACC version.

FF7 is a classic, always worth a play.

If you like it, try Vagrant Story. One of the most underrated games of all time. Absolutely fantastic experience. Check out the GameFAQs board for it - there are still people playing!
