My trusty fat PS3 finally died over Christmas and I'm looking at how to replace it.

It's used primarily as a blueray player, movie and media streamer (from main PC using PS3 media server) - probably 85-90% useage, and 10% games.

The simplest route seems to replace it with a used slim PS3, as the easiest 1 box solution.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Iain

The later PS3's have better quality bluray hardware if I recall. To be honest if I didn't already have a bluray player, when I sold my fat PS3 I would have probably gone for a slim as it did work well.

I just use a Raspberry Pi and separate bluray player.

thanks everyone - got a used ps3 slim 120gb off ebay - all set up - streaming through ps3 media server and bluray working fine.

I liked the plex interface and xbmc, but the lack of decent bluray playback plus the PS3 being only £100 meant PS3 was the best option.

Blu Ray is a pain on a PC. PS3 it's pretty seamless

This many times!!!

was more than happy using a HP microserver as a HTPC until I tried to play BR with it.... Utter ballache, seems every disc you wanted to use needed a software update, and one software update tended to kick off another, then another update for security, at once point took me almost 40mins to get anywhere near playing the disc lol!

Still use it for general media and downloading but it's treat more as a standard PC just hooked upto the TV now.

I upgraded to a 2nd hand PS3 slim, now Im back onto console gaming too lol
