How would FSX run on the following...

Following this thread, I had a quick spin tonight. Haven't played it in ages, certainly since I went quad core + GTX260.

I performed pretty well on Ultra High settings. Except that Ultra High gfx weren't that good.

The terrain in general is pretty poor - are there any (free) source of improved (accurate) terrain? Any good mods that are recommended?

Default terrain is poor in FSX.

I don't use a lot of freeware addons, but there are a view freeware scenery packages in the AVSIM library. Don't bother too much with terrain if you fly jets though, as its wasted at 30,000 feet. For UK airports though I reccomend Gary Summons' UK2000 Free range over at http://www.uk2000scenery.org.

I like my low and slow planes so am prepared to spend a little to get a decent scenery. I'm just re-installing onto a dedicated drive, and am keeping a record of the different effects addons have this time round. Check the difference between these screenshots on the default flight(excuse the slightly different angles, I kept forgetting to save the flight):

2. With UTX Canada

3. With UTX Canada and GEX USA, Canada and Alaska

As you can see GEX really adds to FSX (and even improves framerates for me). All of these shots are with sliders at the settings in my link a couple of posts up, with the exception of my mesh which is set to 5m. The reason for this is that I also use photographic scenery, which I'm currently re-installing. I'll post some more differences once its all up and running again, this time from a more memorable location.
