Right, so I want to bump my fitness up starting tommorrow and I am going to start by doing a nice jog say 1 mile to 1.5 miles long.

I do not have any idea though where I could run (a route) that would be 1 mile / 1.5 miles long.

Anyone got any ideas please. :D

Drive in your or a car and when you see the odometer reachs 1 to 1.5 miles further you have your distance.

That wasn't that hard was it?

West Park is a mile or near as damn it if you run round the perimiter on the inside :)

Try not to chat up my mrs who will proabably be running round as well :p

go for a walk and think that 1 step = anything between .5m and 1.0m depending on how tall you are.

Obviously measure the length before you go out.

Don't worry about the distance, it's really not important. Just go out and run for whatever time/distance you feel comfortable with.

The problem with this is, you then run the one way distance and think "Right, that is enough" but you have to go back home again. :(

Go where ever the wind takes you and back again. Increase until you get a comfortable distance.

How do you find a route that is a mile long? My god man I have finally found a use for a MAP! *wanders off grumbling*

local AtoZ and a piece of string?

Thats how I measured my route for my training for Race For Life, thing is I think you actually run further somehow because my times for my 5km practices were 38mins and for the actual race it came in at 30.44 :\

So either the clock was wrong (unlikely) or I ran too far in my practices (more likely).

Actually, can't you trace your route with google maps?

Never tried lol

You could wait till July and Get some Nike+ and a nano iPod that will tell you how fat you have run. thinking about getting that and starting jogging

edit should be far as pointed out teehee

my girlfriends sister has just took up running, she asked if she could borrow my computer. when I switched it on for her, she loaded a website which had a map on it at ordenance survey sort of scale. you then traced your route with the pointer and it calculated the distance. the catch is I can't remember the site addy, sorry! but there are more high tec solutions than a map if you want them.

Was that a freudian slip :)

Actually I still can't see how the Nike/IPOD thing works.
It isn't GPS so you must have to put your stride length in.
If that is the case then peoples strides change depending on their run.

Just been told it is a mile long round West Park, something to do with it being
a training ground for race horses years ago :)

go to the nearest starbucks, and run until you find the next one.. at most, theres only 2 miles between each one..

Ahhhhhhhhhhh hahahahah thats quality i never noticed lol

Its never going to be 100% acurate but when people take a steady pace running i dare say its pretty constant, but i am no scientist ;)
