Hi all,

How would this run games and such like when connected to my network?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...B 2.0/Ethernet NAS Hard Drive - Retail (29013)

Everything will be connected via cable, got cat5 installed from the main BT socket > Router > into bedroom > PC

The amount of times I keep forgetting to backup my game files when re-formatting.

Will have 2 partitions, 1 for games & one for media files (dont have many media files so 500gb will be mroe than enough, currently got a 200gb HDD and thats been fine.

Also if games are installed onto this HDD, would that mean any PC connected to the network could play them?

Thanks

Very slowly. Not worth it, most NAS top out at ~6MBps, where your internal hdd will be doing things usually at least 10x that speed.

I've got a Thecus 5200pro which has 2x1gb NIC's teamed and plugged into a gigabit switch and my PC has 2x1gb NIC's teamed and it runs really, really fast.
Might be an option but is probably overkill.

I have the same but non teamed. I get approx 40% utilization over gigabit when copying files to/from pc & nas. What do you get with a team out of interest?

I expect he gets similar figures if he's using RAID5, you're usually limited by the controller in standalone NAS boxes.

On my home gigabit network, I get a full 90% utilisation over Vista to my Server 2003 box.

I'm tempted to invest in a managed switch for teaming, I've benched the array itself at >250MB/s sustained, running with 5 1TB Samsung F1's in RAID5 on a PERC5/i controller atm.
