The layout wasn't originally planned like that. They ended up having to change many of the corners when it was being built as they came across underground streams and feared subsidence so changed the direction of the track a few times.
Just pay a few million to host about 10 race weekends on the build up to the F1 event, that will clear up the track off line a bit and make it better for people to pass.
Also widen the big hairpin before the pair of corners on to the back straight so its a bigger loop for some entertaining action.
The track should be dropped from the calender, the only thing that makes a good race there is rain. But as long as they pay the money Berny wants then they will still host it. It's just no good for modern F1 cars.
I tried Grand Valley years ago when someone did it for Gran prix legends and TBH it wasn't very good. it might be a great track in modern cars but in the old '67 cars it just didn't flow at all and felt very strange. I agree it's great in the GT games but I'm not sure it would work IRL.
