Due to being so successful, Apple have lots of cash to throw at R&D and therefore can come up with some pretty innovative designs and ideas. Other companies look at the products and naturally want a piece of the pie, perhaps without the same investment in R&D, and cut corners to come out with a product that can compete. Of course the only way they can do that is by copying. Apple in turn want to safeguard their investment and make steps to protect their IP, which they are quite right in doing. I don't see the problem, it's just how business works.
