After GD's opinion.

I sold a laptop docking station at auction.

It comprises of docking station, power brick and power cable for said brick. Buyer states the package arrived and did not include power brick.

Buyer has provided me with a photo showing un boxed product (power brick missing) and the packaging I used to send it. He stated the box was sealed and had not been tampered with and noted the item was well packed.

My parcel weighed 1.609kg at time of posting recorded by royal mail when posting RMSD.
The complete boxed item without packaging weighs 1.3kg. Official figure and i have weighed an identical unit.
The dock alone weighs 550g.

I am tempted to ask buyer to weigh everything but in doing so will give him an idea of what line i might take.

The power brick in this case is larger and heavier than the dock. I know i packed and sent it and the weight of the parcel backs this up.

how would you guys proceed?

Apologize profusely and ask him to tape it up and send it back in the same packaging so you know it will be safe on the way back.

Ask him to provide a picture of the receipt.

Say sorry, I'll post it out straight away.

Put poop in box small enough to fit through letterbox and post it to him

Problem solved

so i get it back minus the power supply i sent it with and its of no use to anyone.

If he paid via paypal, that is going to happen anyway unless you can convince them based on the weights, might be worth a try, ring up and speak to them...

Speak to Paypal, they provide seller protection also. Depending on your seller profile they may send you an affadavit to sign to say you sent the item and they will refund the buyer and give you your funds back.

I absolutely hate eBay. I know it's no help but MM here is the best place to sell stuff as long as you ignore the stupid lowball offers.

Yeah, and you claim on Royal Mails insurance saying the parcel arrived incomplete - mention you suspect theft during transit. Royal Mail will ask him to provide a witness statement and I find that usually stops the buyers shenanigans. Paypal/ebay will also usually put the dispute on hold while Royal Mail do their investigations so you don't have to worry about a "forced" refund. You'll probably find the seller miraculously closes their dispute once Royal Mail contact them.

Unless of course the seller is telling the truth and there really has been a theft in transit (it does happen - happened to me when a gfx card I sold arrived just as an empty box), in which case you'll get the money back from Royal Mail and you can then refund the buyer.

Interesting will try that route. Doubt theft in transit as he claims just the power brick is missing not the product itself.

You cannot buy replacement power bricks for these It seems so I guess he wanted a replacement out of me.

Buyer has done a U-Turn. Thanks for the advice.

He no longer wants to return the item and then himself purchased an additional power supply apparently.

Asked me if i would like to pay for half the cost of the power supply but that its fine if i dont.

Still waiting for Royal Mail to get back to me even but made me laugh. Thanks for the advice.

I assume he's shown you the receipt for this power supply? :p

Probably the thought of 'the away fans' propping up his front fence put him off. :D
