Howe Out

As shocking as this news is, it’s only the timing that makes it so.

Eddie leaving is the right call. It felt this way towards the end of the season, and tbh most people could see (except a lot of the main stream media). Sounds like now he actually was going to leave, but bizarrely the club convinced him to stay…?

Either way, the end of last season was the right time, this feels like a bit of the wrong time.

Saying that, I actually feel positive in a way, this new guy I’ve never heard of… but a trendy young German manager is the fashion so doing a complete reset makes more sense to bring someone like this in tbh.

You could argue that the signings this summer have been pointing to the fact Eddie will be leaving sooner than late which I actually did think all summer. I genuinely didn’t think it would be during preseason that he left though, I assumed they were changing transfer policy for a new direction but keep Eddie for the upcoming season as a bit of a transition period (even though transition periods are all wishy washy and never goto plan).

I genuinely wish Eddie the best, he brought real success to the club and the city so will forever be part of the club no doubt about it. It was shame about last season but as an overall picture Eddie Howe has been amazing for us we can’t deny that.

Which is a hard pill to swallow, given that a little over a season ago, we won our first trophy and qualified for the Champions League, and everything around the club felt positive and optimistic.

I think you will be ok, to be quite honest I can foresee all 3 newly promoted teams going straight back down, having said that, its nice to have something else to read about in the football world other than Bradley Barcola news

The relegation stuff is nonsense, they had one relatively poor season under Howe as the first can be written off considering he joined in November and didn't have much to work with.

The new manager would have to be a complete dud for it to go that far south. I think they'll come up smelling of roses with the change in transfer approach and finish top half again.
 
I think this means Bruno leaves as well.

I’ve made my peace now, this last 5 year is effectively a chapter in the club that is now for sure closed.

I’m going into the next chapter optimistic…. Maybe foolishly…

But we clearly are going young/high potential… I think we need to reset this season and clearly compete with Brighton etc… which tbh isn’t bad if we can out do them.

We are going for the let’s be a “more smart looking/fashionable Brighton” of the North East…

This would be the sensible direction in the interim. Whether or not that is enough for the Saudis is another question. The absence of a high level coach makes it more difficult to attract and retain top talent at Newcastle. Howe has done a good job. Champions League qualifications, a trophy and some stellar profits on players. Isak, Gordon, Tonali and Guimaraes. I said in the Man United thread earlier in the year that I'd have him at Old Trafford ahead of quite a few potential managers. His track record in the league is very good and he's a better coach than someone like Potter who got hired by Chelsea.

What's happened about the St James Park move / redevelopment?

You only have to look at Spurs to see that it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

Maybe we don't get relegated, but scrapping around the bottom third of the table doesn't seem too far-fetched, given:
  • The exodus of our best players (and now the manager)
  • Replacing them with young/inexperienced players (and now the manager)
  • Apart from a few exceptions (Lewis Hall), the players who haven't left all underperformed last season (for various reasons)
I would love to see this young squad get a new manager bounce and maybe try something different (like playing Woltemade in his natural position, maybe), but I've been a Newcastle fan long enough to not get overly excited just yet. A heavy dose of scepticism is generally healthy as both a Newcastle and England supporter!

Maybe with Howe gone, we'll actually beat Bournemouth – which would be nice, seeing as I'll be at the home game this season. :D
 
He lost as many games last season as Bruce last season.

More stuff has come out that he asked to leave a few weeks ago but stayed until the replacement was lined up.

Matthias Jaissle is the coach Milian have been trying to hire this summer.

They finished 17th two seasons on the bounce…

Obviously, it’s not impossible, but the mention of it today has been completely over the top imo from sections of your fanbase and elsewhere.

Time will tell…

I would Kevin-Kegan-love-it to be proved wrong, but I have a feeling we'll be looking up at 12th come the end of the season.
 
I’m up for a young up and coming nutter aiming to be elite.. happy for that journey if that’s how it goes.

Maybe this is the club looking very long term.

Obviously we can’t buy success these days, so maybe we go down the Brighton model route … gain a foundation of several steady seasons of rebuilding over time the entire squad… then build gradually from that. Which actually would be a very sensible plan, that seems strategic.

I really hope we have just uncovered some next elite guy… but yeh I’m really clutching I know but it’s all I can do.

Has this guy been confirmed for definite yet?

I’d be so much more confident in the long term strategy being successfull if they actually get the stadium/infrastructure moving.. that’s my main worry on the long term planning strategy/interest from PIF.

If we’re now aiming at the Brighton maybe more into the B.Dortmund style of club Matthias seems to be an exception and smart move if you look at his history. Came through the Redbull system which is known for selling and developing young players while still expecting to be competitive.

Something we need to get behind and get used to until our revenue improves.

I feel NUFC has possibly the most excitable, deluded and deranged fanbase as a percentage of any club.
