However did we play games without G Sync and FreeSync?

ULMB/Strobing is the superior feature for gaming though! Sure get G/Free sync and render those blurred pixels that are well blurred. Just maintain a minimum fps equal to refresh is how we managed in the day.

As far back as CS 1.6 i tried to do this, And still do!

I find the loss of saturation far too much of a trade off except for maybe CS - on the Swift and even my older BenQ (albeit using lightboost in that way was a hack of 3D Vision functionality) I don't find it that much better for motion clarity - nothing like the jump from those monitors normally to a CRT would be.

G-Sync is pretty amazing, along with 100hz. One of the things along with SSD's that have made me go wow since getting into building my own PC.

I used to have the LG34UC97-S, a 3440 x 1440 60 Hz curved ultrawide from Feb 2015. Upgraded to the ASUS PG348Q this Feb, which amusingly is the same panel but with G-Sync @ 100hz. As a result got to compare the two panels side by side and the difference is pretty profound. Used to get tearing in plenty of titles such as Witcher 3, Just cause 3 which was alleviated to an extent, but with G-Sync its buttery smooth. Seeing the two side be side, difference was pretty big.

Combined with 100hz and its pretty amazing and games feel brilliant. So much going through my library of titles as it feels that much nicer. Does suck of course I am salved somewhat to Nvidia, but worth it really.

To be honest with you I don't ever plan to get one of these monitors ! being a gamer since I was 18 years old the only things that matter too me is 60 FPS max for shooters and max quality :) Now thats all you need. I really don't get why people buy 144 FPS monitors when you would have to buy 2 x 980 Ti at £500 + pop and also the technology doesn't work how it should ! so its technically a waste of money. This is my view any away.

By the sound of it you haven't tried G-Sync/Freesync, It's a real game changer.

Also for 144Hz monitors you don't NEED to run games at 144FPS but if you want to with 1 x GPU then one can always turn the settings down.

G-Sync sorted out those little gripes that bugged me for years. Gaming without G-Sync is quite annoying now but before was tolerable. You notice it far more after using G-Sync if that makes sense?

Input lag is awful in my opinion with VSync on and particularly so with 60Hz refresh. GSync allows me to keep input lag low with the added benefit of zero tearing. What's not to like? :P

Simples, once you use it and see what a game changer it is, you realise how horrible gaming was without it.

What Tony said.

Had to send back my 2730Z for replacement, and couldn't stand playing games at the old monitor used happily for 5 years.

Was so bad that turned it off, and for the period until replacement came (1 week) found the time to learn painting with airbrush using Angel Giraldez techniques, and painted two 300pts armies for Infinity (PanO, Yu Jing). Says it all......

Haven't tried it yet but I imagine it's pretty great. The thing is, both AMD and Nvidia have their own proprietary crap and I can't see myself staying with either brand for too long. Having to change monitors everytime I go from green to red and vice versa is out of the question. Granted I don't swap cards frequently, but still.

How did we live without Aircon in cars, cameras on phone, contact less cards and even LED/LCD monitors ???? Its called progress. for me personally Gsync was a big step up in the smooth graphical world. It meant i could run higher settings due to not noticing the lower spikes of FPS in busy scenes and screen tearing in higher.

Quite simply its like any other advance. Take CPU's for example do you want Intel to stop progressing ? they only get 5-10% increase on each upgrade. going from my old 60hz/fps LED monitor to a 144hz Gsync was VERY noticeable. Much more noticeable than going from my 980 to 980ti.

Either you have not tried it or dont want to move to a "sync" monitor however its very good and very noticeable.

Its just called Progress.

Adaptive sync the AMD is using is open standard supported by all (eg intel) but nvidia.

All new monitors that will come with dp1.3 will support it at least on hardware level, same applies to all cards that will have dp1.3. However going to be to the discrepancy of the manufacturers if they are going to support it with drivers. (Eg nvidia)

so reading through this thread I am a little confused

Can I use this G-sync/Freesync with my lcd monitor I have now I don't think it is G-sync Freesync ready however I have just read that the program basically syncs the GPU's HZ and matches it with the monitor?

Basically what I am asking is with it sync the equipment I have now and improve the experience?

I used to be big into pc's back in the early 2000's but I ended up getting out of it, now I am back on board I am like a monkey using tools for the first time!!

Both GSYNC and Freesync require special hardware in the monitor to allow the refresh rate to fluctuate with the GPU's frame rate. Neither work without a supported monitor.

When I made the jump from 60hz to 120hz it was night and day difference, especially in FPS games - I couldn't believe the difference and bored eveyone I was on voice comms with by saying over and over again how good it was.

The jump from 120hz to 144hz Gsync was also very decent, I don't think I could cope with going back to 60hz, I could handle 120hz non Gsync again if I had to but the "sync" technology makes makes so smooth it's really nice playing with it.

It's just a shame that you can't mix and match freesync and gsync, I don't like being tied to a GPU brand because of the monitor technology. Hopefully someone invents a type of "allsync" software soon and that becomes mainstream.

You need one of these monitor, they're not cheap.
