How're Nintendo doing financially?

So who do you think is buying and playing on the 3ds and wii u? And with mobile games coming I can see nintendo raking it in. Not to mention amiibo sales.

I think we may have crossed wires. I'm not saying Nintendo are in financial problems or doomed - my post was a slightly offtopic response to something Deep said that went even more offtopic. I do think they're in danger of devaluing their IPs and losing the 'hardcore' gamer. Find a group of guys talking about how great Nintendo are - chances are they're all in their mid 30s. Who's going to pick up the baton after them?

So yeah - they could keep printing money with handhelds, which tend to be home to more casual, throw away games, rake in silly amounts of money on mobiles and sell millions of plastic toys. They won't be the company I grew up with, though, and they won't be producing the games that made me a life long fan. And now i've gone even more offtopic :D

Lol as my kids grow up and are old enough to play I know what games they will be playing when they can hold a pad. And it won't be either of an MS or Sony product.

Can't wait for them to love Nintendo as I did as a child. Great times ahead.

I bought a 3DS for Animal Crossing, and Zelda, but bought Zelda from MM here, and Animal Crossing on CDKeys...
I feel like I'd have a good amount more games, if they were sold around the £25 mark.
It's far easier for me to go for purchases on a whim, on the Vita, when games are £10-£20 on PSN, than going for something that's £39.99 on the eShop.

This really gets on my nerves.
Starfox 3DS is still around £35-40 and that game is really old! Nintendo are horrible at pricing games sometimes.

The newer games they'll drop considerably in a short amount of time but the older ones will 'retain their value'

IMO that's a good thing. Nothing says a console's dead more than seeing games for £3 at a boot sale.

I spent ages trying to find a cheap copy of Fire Emblem Awakening - in the end I bit the bullet and paid £28 for it digital. When I played it I then understood pretty quickly why it was still commanding pretty much full price.

Same goes for old Zelda games, Starfox etc etc etc.

Quality games generate demand, demand dictates pricing.

Welcome to capitalism.

Even <£30 is more bearable for a handheld game, but when I look at the eShop and see the games at £39.99, I can't help but feel it's not worth it.
There's a difference between something being dirt cheap at £3, which I think could be seen as devaluing the console, and something being £20ish.

For the likes of myself, I'll just not buy the games, or wait until I see it used.

Don't buy anything from the Eshop - you can buy digital 3DS and Wii U games from loads of places that discount them heavily compared with Eshop prices.

Where are you buying your games from? You can get Starfox for under £20 if you look around. I don't think I've paid more than about £25 for a 3DS game.

Can you show me where?

It does seem to be expensive at the moment, I agree. I got it for £13 a while back in an Amazon promotion, but I guess that was at a time where the product had general price elasticity. You'd probably be surprised at how few people are in your position, of only wanting to buy the game if it comes down in price. Lots of people will either buy it at full price, or not bother at all. Remember, Nintendo - especially their handhelds - are quite popular with children and gifts/nag factor tend to override a high price.

I know Nintendo do some weird things, but squeezing money out of their products is something they tend to do pretty well.

I don't class the wiiU as a console . Call me old fashioned , but I like something that sits on my rack under the tv . Its a glorified handheld , which is why its been caught in no-mans land. that and the fact its about on par with ps3 graphics haven't helped :/

so its basically no proper "console" for 9 years

Lawd. Have you actually played a Wii U? It isn't a handheld console - it does sit under your TV, and it performs better than the PS3.
