How's team fortress 2?

Very different than CSS obviously, but it can be quite tactical if you want.

Public servers won't always be, they're usually just hectic mayhem (which sounds bad, but it's not, it's surprisingly fun), but organised team matches can get quite heated, and can really show off which team can adapt and work together the best.

"Easy to learn, hard to master" is about right, you'll see a lot of particular classes who's job it is to essentially just spam grenades etc, but its not to say there aren't people out there playing these classes who aren't skilled at those classes.

As mks2005 said; the game rewards aggressive play, intelligent play, and also taking risks, for every class in the game there's a counter, in that regard it's well balanced, but you'll have people argue because this game has "classes" (9 of 'em) that it'll never be truly balanced, it's a lot faster, and easy for pick up and play than CSS, you can switch classes every time you respawn.

Finally I'd say TF2 community is a lot more relaxed than that of CSS, which is a plus for me, it is a serious game despite it's cartoony appearance, but it's a really only as serious as you want to play it :)

In my eyes CS:S is a hardcore gamers game, i played this a lot when i was in college/uni, and i got pretty good,

Since i got a full time job i havn't had the time to play CS:S 23 hours a day and my skills reflect this, i left my clan and only played on public servers and really didn't enjoy playing it nearly half as much,

I got TF2 in the beta as it sounded promising, and i still play it nearly every free moment i have, it is brilliant, it just seems so laid back yet so frantic at the same time, i can play after a long week at work and still have fun,

If i fancy a change, i just change class, each class is so completely different it's like a whole new game,

But i you are a hardcore gamer and want to keep to that then i think a game like TF2 wouldn't suit you, i would reccomend UT3, Crysis, COD4, BF2 or something along those lines

If you enjoyed TFC with CTF rules then you will most likely hate TF2.

If you're a 'pro gamer' you will probably hate TF2 as well. There is limited skill in the game. The crits, players dieing about twice as fast as they did in TFc, seemingly completely random weapon damage make it more like a lottery. Also every skill that was in TFC is present in TF2 (apart from Scout double jump) except all the difficult skills have just been taken out.

i love tf2, me and my mate normally jump on ever night if possible at 10pm and play for a few hours using mics to coord the tam were on and its so much fun "guys, we need turrests in our base!" "im on it!" "SPY!!!" "sentry down :("

TF2 is great fun. With the 9 completely different characters it's like 9 different games. Speed, stealth, invulnerability, invisibility, explosions, it's deadly.

Fun to be had everywhere but some moments as the Spy have been absolutely class.

Gonna try it, thanks for all the replys, I did like the seriousness of CS but tbh I simply don't have the time to dedicate to it like I used to (and im glad) so theres no point playing a serious hard to get into game like CS.

Long as its well supported and tons of people playing

cheers

Whilst I like both TF2 and CS, I find that at times you may be sitting for 2 minutes waiting to get back in the game with CS (depending on how rubbish you opponents are :P) whereas you have to wait a max of 20 seconds to get back into TF2. In fact, the server I usually go on has an instant respawn :)

tfc is one of my favourite games ever, (as is cs)

tf2 is a lot slower and less frantic in comparison with tfc (plus no grenades now :( ), but tf2 is a cracking game

the tactics used in all 3 games differ massively, i could spend a week playing any one of them and not get bored, you have to get TFC aswell as TF2

Love the game, about the only shooter I could play on my pap PC, very laid back game and lots of fun. No silly people screaming 'noob' every second, if you win or lose its all good. My idea of a good game. I did manage to get to rank #1 on a server I cant mention on here :p

Ive since got a new pc and kinda left it for COD4 (awesome) but keep going back to TF2, I tried my hand at sniping again, MUCH easier on a fast pc, might have to log in now in fact.

Some of the custom maps are really cool and make a change from the stock ones too.

Team Fortress 2 is the best online FPS I've played in terms of fun since Quake 2 in my opinion. It's lots of fun, plus it caters to a lot of people... such as Engineers - you don't need to be some crack shot with a weapon to play this class, and it's more about building strategic placements of turrets, dispensers and teleporters. Then you have things like the Medic which is a support class and is built for running around healing your team mates.

I find they worked it out really well, and I'm delighted that for once you can be great at a first person shooter without having being able to shoot apples of peoples heads from 1 mile away.

If you find a good server or two with people who use their mic's frequently it's even more fun imo :) A server that I regularly play on did something recently whereby we had about 2 minutes left to capture the last CP on gravelpit, we couldnt' breach the oppositions defences with regular class setups so we all went Scouts and zerg'd the whole area, not only was it completely hilarious watching 12 scouts battering people with baseball bats but we won with 5 seconds to go... never laughed so much at a game in years :P
