hows this coffee maker?

i would avoid a nespresso machine just so i dont have to queue for them with people who have their heads up their arses.

went looking at them in selfridges in london and the people around them... i would punch one of them. they even had a ticket systel like that at the meat counter in asda.

whats wrong with ticket systems?

fenwicks have them at the deli and they arent exactly a low class department store?

tescodirect have DeLonghi EC152.CD Coffee Machine at the same price as johnlewis btw and until the end of the month they are doing £10 off when you spend £75 or more.

Ah so there's no love for the capsule machine. I'm in no need to find utter perfection so if it makes an excellent cup of coffee then that's just fine with me.

Good luck with finding a nice cup of coffee.

TBH, I find he nespresso machines pretty good. They are wy better than most coffe machines except the real deal espresso machines, but they are cheap, easygoing use, convenient.

If you can gt the capsules easily and cheaply it is worth considering. When I lived inswitzerland everyone owned one and you could buy capsules everywhere.

Overly expensive, and they don't make an excellent cup of coffee.

Coffee, once ground goes stale in a matter of a few minutes.

If you can grind your own coffee and make your own capsules, then you can have fresh coffee. But chances are they were made weeks, if not months ago.

The most disappointing cup of coffee I've ever had came from one of the capsule machines. Wasn't quite the worst, but it's the one that sticks out most. The coffee tasted of rubber and smoke. The milk smelt like a baby had thrown up in the jug.

The capsule machines are very far from perfect. You'll get better results with a cheap espresso machine and then grinding your own beans as you go. It will be cheaper too.

It's more convenient but that's about the only advantage it has over any other option.

I still say it's worth considering the Silvia; you can usually get it with a Rocky as part of a deal and as far as I'm concerned it's the benchmark against which all single boiler consumer machines should be measured...

That's my Xmas present!

The warehouse deals is the 2nd hand/returned stuff? Damaged boxed I am ok with not sure I would want any cosmetic damage though. Temping at £115 though!

Yep I did take a good look at the description. The one I ordered was a damaged box but the unit was "immaculate" (their words).

edit:- Tell a lie. I have done too much browsing this afternoon. The wording is:-
"Packaging is damaged. Item is in excellent condition. All purchases eligible for Amazon customer service and a 30-day return policy."

The other listings have small cosmetic damage listed. If this turns up with any scratches then back it goes.

theres no warranty at all with them though apart from the 30day refund? makes me think they should be a lot cheaper for second hand goods

Nothing wrong with Nespresso imo.

Who wants to bugger about grinding beans at 6am? I don't.

On a time/taste ratio I don't think you can beat them.

But do get the official Nespresso capsules the imitation ones are pretty poor.

I've been running a Silvia for a few years now and I picked up a Rockey on the bay about a year ago. Superb combo.

If you only want to make espresso I would probably recommend an grinder designed just for grinding espresso as it will give you finer control over the grind (this is important for getting the right flow just right).

The Rocky doesn't offer that ultra fine precision over the grind but tbh its pretty damn good and has the advantage of being able to grind for drip and cafetiere, which for me is important. The best Rocky to get is the doserless one as unless you are making loads of coffee at once, the doser just ends up full of stale coffee.

It takes 10 seconds to grind some beans? I pick up the portafilter, stick it under the grinder and fresh grind comes out.

I can make one as quick as you can get a pod out of the cupboard and putting it in the machine and pressing the button.

what about the time to pre-heat the machine and bring the portafilter up to temp?

Thats why I don't bother using my Silvia at 7am, I just grind into a gold drip filter and drip into a hot mug.

Wake up
Turn it on
Go shower
Come out and make coffee

It's not exactly hard.

What I don't use is the frother, i am too lazy to do that at home so I only make Americanos.
