I run a PC repair centre, and I got a call from a regular customer asking me to go out to them and look at their PC. He had a few issues with an app crashing recently and sent off error reports to microsoft. He got a call from someone this week saying that he had reported a problem (I dont know anyone else who has been called), and they wanted him to try several things (they didnt say anything relating to his issues). They wanted him to type in TEMP VIRUS in the run box and tell them how many files there were (go one try it on yours ;) ) then type TEMP SPYWARE. They then commented on the number of files there were and that they would fix the problem for £xx. I got a phone number from them which is a UK company, I think I should report them to someone, but not sure who... what do you think?

What does TEMP spyware do?
Display details of files in temp dir?

oh, it just opens your temp directory? That's cunning, how did they get his number though?

I'm not 100%, my engineer went out to the customer, we called them when he got back and asked for "jizzmond" and wound the caller up.

Thats scam tastic.

Report those swines!

who to though? It sounded like an office and they guy was telling us that they are based in Bradford, but the company name had nothing to do with M$. We asked for Jizzmond and was put through to someone, we explained that we was asked to call back when our computer had rebooted (we gave no other info than this) and the guy carried on as if we had explained everything to him. He wanted us to go to a website, enter a code in and they would take control of our PC and fix it after paying for the service...

Trading Standards would seem like a good place to start with that.

PS - I have 639 viruses. :o Coincidentally, I also have 639 spyware. :o Wonder how that happened. :D
