So, it appears my second 360 has given up the ghost - locked up playing COD4 today, then on the dashboard, now nothing but RROD. Not so bad I thought, can't have had it for 3 years already, so it'll be well inside the extended warranty.

Not so, the manufacture date is 3 years ago today

Have filled out the online repair request form and am awaiting the confirmation email, fingers crossed the replacement all goes smoothly :)

For future reference, am I right in assuming that it's 3 years from the manufacturing date, or from purchase?

purchase i think.

you will get another one if you argue the point that it broke down on the day the warranty run out.

So if the manufacture date is 3 years today, doesn't make make it 1 day out of warranty? If it's the 6th september 3 years ago then this will be its 4th 6th september that it has existed? The 6th sept - 5th sept is 1 year  Today is day 1 of year 4

No because the warranty doesn't start from manufacture date. A shop could hold stock for a few months before selling it to you, so you could end up with, say, a 360 that was manufactured 6 months before you bought it meaning you'd end up with 2 and a half years of warranty which is of course a little unfair.

Basically you look at the manufacture date first and if it's in 3 years there's no argument. If it's beyond manufacture date, it comes down to date of purchase at which point MS may ask for proof of purchase.

He will be fine though as it's impossible for a customer to get a console on or even just a few days after the date of manufacture. I think the 'newest' console I've ever seen was manufactured around a month before date of purchase.
