can you help me shave a few quid of this build?

thanks,

Jake

nope no peripherals or OS and mainly gaming and music with a bit of photo editing but really i just want it to last a long time.

I would get a HAF 932 and a 5850 which is fine for 1920x1200 res.(then just add a 2nd later in the year)

The HAF932 has great cooling and huge space inside plus these options would save you a nice amount.

to be honest i really dont like the looks of the haf. i want a nice sleek looking case really. and how do you know im going to be gaming at 1920x1200? :p

It may not look good but it's a really good performing case, one of the best for the price plus you may want the room for your cards.Another two to consider are the Antec 902(which i have, it can manage a 5870 but a 5970 is a struggle.) and the Lancool Dragon-Lord K62.

I said that res because that one plus 1920x1080 seem to be most common people game at now also the 5850 handles any game at that res with 4xaa or more on with ease.(except Crysis but still plays it very good but care about one game.)

well neither of those cases are very plain and sleek looking so thats kind of a no. and i need to wait to get some more cash together before i buy a HD monitor. but why not have the power now rather than later?

I just do not think it's worth going for a 5870 due to the cash difference/performance compared to the 5850 which also work insanely good in crossfire and not far off 5870s in crossfire.A better question would be why have the power now when you will not use it all?;) you would save some cash getting a 2nd later on.

Fair enough, you may want to check the Silverstone Fortress case then too if you want to save some money but not sure how well it fits the cards but should be fine i guess.

Nice pc though.

well i have been thinking about the 5850 but i just really want a 5870 for no rational reason. im buying ex VAT so why not? hopefully they will come down in price a little after Fermi is eventually released.

ive looked at the Fortress but its not really to my liking as it still looks quite gamey to me. just my opinion of course. also there isnt a great price difference between it and my current case so i spose ill stick with this one for now since it is bigger and i prefer the looks of it.

is there anything apart from the case you would change about this build? also do you know if the fan controller will fit under the door of this case? there seems be a bit of clearance by the looks of things on the photos.

Case wise, id stick with the Lian Li A71F, i have the A70F, doorless version but identical interior, space wise youll have loads of room.

Mine.

Mobo is an asus p6t dlx v2, identical layout as the p6td, TRUE black cooler with push/pull fans, 6 gb ocz reaper, (still room for 6gb more if needed), the 8800gt graphics card has since been replaced with a gtx 275, corsair hx 850w psu.

I would suggest the Samsung f3 500gb instead of WD,A 5850 instead of 5870,Coolermaster ATCS 840 instead of Lian Li,A OCZ 700w Modxtreem thats if you want to save money and i think you will still have a awesome pc :)

Why the extra fans? I wouldn't bother with the fan controller either unless you find you need one as the stock fans aren't particularly noisy (could always order one at a later date if you find your opinion differs), however I've found it is worthwhile removing the internal fan guard off the northbridge case fan. The lockable door is great for keeping childrens fingers away from optical drives and the power and reset buttons (may not be something you need to consider) as well as cutting down any noise from the front fans too.
