Right we've all been there either with a bad hangover or just generally tired.

Under these conditions the day never seems to end so can we compile a list of things to do at work whilst appearing to be 'busy' :) Alternatively good excuses for not doing work in your in tray.

For example today I'm feeling kind of tired but I have got the following on my plate.

[1] Fix a hand full of live/production client websites which I have broken(patching the OS and databases) but is going to be a pain to fix due to legacy code and drivers. Pretty important I suppose.

[2] Sort out the million upon million of sys admin scripts and services located all over the place. Semi important but would be a clear win for my boss.

[3] Continue building a linux cluster for 3d rendering but am having problems due to compiling openMosix under debian. This is the least important but the most interesting.

So what do I do for the rest of the day ? I'm on snooze at the moment

For the record, I'm not a lazy git as this thread suggests and have been recognised as being one of these 'above and beyond' characters wherever I've worked. It's just facts are facts and we all do skive a little at work whether it be a little surfing, chatting or trying out new software for your phone etc etc

There are millions of people out there struggling to make the grade and get a decent job with decent pay and prospects.

LOL@this. Getting a decent job is about making the mark in interviews and having an average skill set. If they are unemployed its due to their own fault and neglegence to pay attention to to those two traits.

Trust me I know this from experience when I gave up working for 2 years not because I couldn't get a job more like I didn't asert myself to look ! When agents rang me up and fixed up interviews without initially applying for them I would fall flat on my face simply because I did not assert myself correctly.

However when I was getting desperate and started to look properly I got a job within a week of sending out my application.

Plus I'm sure most of the unemployed masses couldn't do his job by a long way!

Yes and no - A lot of IT jobs specify this that and another but when you get into the job 9 times out of 10 it's ******. The stuff you do, a kid could do. Most of my contracts/roles have been of this nature - they pay you for what you know in reserve ie all the skills you have but don't use on a daily basis.

I guess this thread has opened my eyes to what the real problem is - too much horse power - too small a task to do. (ps ladies I'm not talking about what's in my pants btw). I've got to escape :D

OK enough faffing around. I'm off to compile apache and 'fix' some 'stuff'
