HP LP3065 DVI-D cable requirements?

The DVI-D cable that came with my HP LP3065 monitor is too short (1.5M) and I need a 3M one. But it shows artifacts on the screen with no sign of any proper signals being sent (can't see my desktop even the slightest).

The cable detects the monitor's name fine and isn't using the Generic PnP, so it seems to detect the monitor fine, but isn't streaming the content fine for some reason.

I have tried these two cables so far:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331463153113
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252303640508

Both of which have the exact same result.

I also tested both cables on a different monitor (Acer XG270HU) which just shows the screen as black, and it goes from power saving to normal in a repeated sequence.

Any ideas what kind of cable I need to use to resolve this? As far as I'm aware the cable that came with the monitor is exactly the same as these ones I've bought and tested. I also tested the cable that came with my monitor with the Acer monitor which works fine too! So the issue is definitely with the cables I'm purchasing and not the monitors themselves.

Any help is much appreciated! :) Thank you so much for reading!

I don't get that either you just need a dual link DVI-D

what GPU are you using, exact name and brand? My guess is something to do with that

Hi bigjimmyauk, thanks a lot for your response! :)

The exact specifications and branding of my GPU is an XFX Radeon R9 290X 4GB GDDR5.

It works fine with the cable that's provided with the monitor, just doesn't work with any other I seem to purchase with it. As the eBay listings describe they both seem to be dual link.

If required I can provide a video of what's happening, and show that it works fine in the exact same port of the GPU but doesn't work with any other cable I use except for the one that comes with the monitor. It's especially strange that the eBay cables don't work with either the HP or Acer monitor I use though

thats really bizarre may sound daft buthave yo checked to make sure the pins and plugs are the same as the cable you got with it?

do you have access to a multimeter to make sure all the pins from end to end are connecting?

Thanks again for your reply :) No access to a multimeter currently I'm afraid! Although seeing as I'm having the same issue with two completely different eBay cables, it's very unlikely that both of them are faulty, surely? :o

From a physical prospective, all the cables I used look the same. Unfortunately I already returned the first eBay cable so I can't compare that, but I can compare the 2nd eBay cable. Here is a photo of the original cable that came with the monitor (green one with silver plates) compared with the 2nd eBay cable (black one with gold plates): http://i.imgur.com/QmsKJyT.jpg

And for the heck of it, a photo of the ports on the monitor: http://i.imgur.com/rJ6TB16.jpg

I tested the original/green cable with my GPU in the same slot I used for the eBay/black cable and it worked absolutely fine.

I do have a hunch though that the issue might be because the cable only supports up to 1920x1080? Unless such description is just a precaution (The HP LP3065 is a 2560x1600 monitor after all).

I was looking at another cable here that claims to support up to 2560x1600: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005Y77DJK Any idea if that would be any better?

Thanks so much for your replies once more! :)

remove the competitor link or you'll be getting a slapped wrist from the admins

well dual link DVI-D supports upto 2560x1600 anyway so if the place you got them from is advertising them as DVI-D dual link then they are being naughty.

could always try this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...tor-cable-black-2-meter-dv-202-cb-066-ok.html
they do a 1m,2m,3m and a 5metre
