HP Or Acer

Its always better to start fresh then sit there uninstalling everything from experience! Also I believe that the recovery CD allows 32 bit or 64 bit……..? But where do you get to choose the option of installing the version you want? According to the notebook forum the recovery cd is both 32 or 64 bit but im just wondering where you get to choose this option?

lol, im not sure, havnt read into it much tbph. Drop HP an email and find out, they respond resonably quickly.

I am pretty sure insaying though, the recovery CD will have all the bloatware on it so rending a reinstall with it pointless

Have you received the laptop yet.............i received mine this morning and theres a few very light scratches on the top but very very faint :( But other than that the laptop looks fantastic. I can only power this up after i finish work though :(

yeh picked mine up today from store, looks awesome! havn't inspected it fully, but powered it up, no dead pixels and no bad backlight bleed :)

did yours not have a protective film on the top (i assume u mean the top of the laptop with the illuminated HP logo?)

Yeah it come with a protective film but it was more around the edges or maybe its me being picky......! Laptop is very slow though to boot into vista with all the bloatware :( Gonna do a fresh install from scratch as there is tooo much to remove! Also a good chance of putting 64bit on it instead :)
Btw how do we know that 32bit is restricted to 3gb ram only???? Unders sytem it recognises that i have 4gb of ram!

yeh, the systems will recognise that the system has 2x2GB ram sticks which make 4GB. However, the limitation of a 32bit operating system is that it can only address a total physical memory of about 3.75 GB. As our 9600M GT has 512MB of dedicated video ram, that means that windows will use only about 3.25GB ram despite seeing all 4GB :(

How are you reinstalling vista with no bloat? Are you using a vista disc you already own along with the OEM key that came with your laptop?

Well i the first thing i done was removed a few bloatware but ive just read that the first thing to do is burn the recovery dvd. Will be doing this when i get home tonight, then i will "borrow" a copy of vista and use my product key to activate it :)

The laptop does look very sleek and sexy though, i tried the HDMI last night but the screen was cropped over the edges but apparently you have to manually adjust this!

yeh the hdmi will all be in the nvidia control panel. Yeh, good plan on the reinstall, will have to look carefully at the extent of the bloat when i get it xmas day.
