i have a hp dv9850ea laptop which is overheating, you can actually feel the heat rising through the keyboard, this is causing issues with the graphics chip i have taken it apart and reapplied arctic silver to the graphics chip and cpu which as helped a little but the fan never seems to kick in enough.
Question, is there any software i could use to enable the fan to run at a steady pace to try and keep things cool i have updated the firmware and have ordered a cooler..

Is it getting hot just when gaming or doing intensive tasks, or when idle too? Have you checked task manager to ensure there's no processes in the background causing the CPU to work harder than usual (and thus create more heat)?

Unfortunately applications to control fan speeds in notebooks tend to be quite specific; there's an app for certain Dells example but they don't work on other models or other brands. You could try Speedfan but I'd be surprised if it works to be honest. All I can suggest is that you google the model number of your notebook along with 'fan control' and see if any results appear.

Hi - have you tried upgrading the bios. There was a problem with overheating on some of the 9xxx versions and a later bios made the onboard fan operate more to keep it cooler.

maybe you block the air vents when you put it on your lap? used to have a toshiba laptop that did that then i got a cooler pad (no fans, just pad) for it to let airflow when i pot on my lap. And it solved the problem
