Yeah I know now mate, learning more each day on how it all works, he mentioned performance tanked in game menus, sounded like he needed to adjust the slider, turned out to be something else, glad he sorted it
I assume the g1 at 100% steam sets a different resolution to the g2?, hence why the other guy could raise his on his 1080 where most of us with g2 are having to lower ours for better fps,
As I say looks great at 100%, just not playable for me, I prefer the 90 fps, there will be exceptions to the rule, such as HL Alyx which can run at 100% on my 3080, going to have to tinker with each game
Don't own one, but from what I gather G1 resolution is bugged out in steamVR where steam seems to mis-read the native resolution of the panel, it never appears to have been fixed. Ironically even though the G1 ends up at closer to the 2160x2160 at 100% in steam, it's actually the incorrect one that is bugged - hence why so many people end up running the G1 at eg 150%
There is definitely an argument to be made that at 100% it's a bit overkill for the distortion correction on the G2, I personally found it to be a very small difference between 80% and 100%, below 80% I started to notice a more significant loss in clarity. I think 80% is probably the performance/clarity sweet spot if your GPU can cope with pushing that many pixels... mine cannot unfortunately!
